Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer works closely with our research and design team to modernize our current and future vehicle offerings.

This individual must have experience creating processes, thinking outside of the box, and troubleshooting.

Director of Engineering, Process, and Quality

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery.
  • Design and develop automotive electronics solutions including interfaces, programming, and wiring diagrams
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Develop new or improved designs of components, parts, or systems.
  • Facilitate manufacturing process for new vehicle offerings.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in automotive application development and design for use.
  • Develop specifications for new parts or prototypes.
  • Identify appropriate materials and processes to ensure the quality, performance, and manufacturability of products.
  • Conducts analysis and tests to determine weaknesses and failures in prototypes and products.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Individual must be technically minded, and able to manage projects and assigned objective to completion.
  • High proficiency in MS office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Excellent oral, written, editing, and presentation communication skills.
  • Production focused.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced growth environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to take constructive feedback.
  • Willingness to work independently or with a team.
  • Ability to work over 40 hours per week / until the job is done mentality.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years experience working with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Experience designing parts for manufacturability, ease of assembly, and ease of installation.
  • Experience in hands-on prototyping and fabrication.
  • 5-10+ years electromechanical engineering experience
  • CAN-Bus, PLC, and C programming experience is a plus.
  • Experience with geometric scanning is a plus.
  • Experience in 6-Sigma is a plus.

Physical Demands (to include but not limited to)

  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computer, office equipment, telephone, etc.
  • Sit at desk or stand on concrete for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to reach in and work safely around vehicles.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and distinctly hear and be understood in person or over the phone.
  • Must be able to work in a busy / fast paced automotive shop environment.
  • Must be able to work seated, standing, a / or walking for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to use fingers, hands, and arms at computer keyboard for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and place items up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Occasional reaching overhead and below knees, including squatting, bending, stooping, kneeling, and twisting.
  • Ability to work long hours in hot or cold temperatures.
  • Must be able to work extended hours as needed to complete tasks on schedule.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the production environment.
