Job Summary : The Coordinator-Transplant 1*, Cardiac Transplant Program, functions in collaboration with the Coordinator-Transplant Two (2).

Applies the nursing process based on knowledge of cardiac disease and cardiac transplantation to case manage and coordinate all aspects of the national and international cardiac transplantation process for patients of all ages.

Collaborates with Coordinator-Transplant Two (2) and Medical Director to coordinate the transplant interdisciplinary medical care delivery system.

Serves as a liaison among physicians, patients, families, procurement agencies, and payors to ensure effective utilization of resources and quality improvement.

Travels extensively for organ procurement on short notice. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals.

Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience : Associate's Degree in Nursing required. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Minimum two years of critical care clinical experience in cardiology, cardiac surgery, or neonatology required.

Minimum one year experience in transplant or cardiac specialty preferred.

  • Knowledge and Skills : Able to write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position;
  • trouble shoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities. Able to communicate in English;
  • relate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and / or enforcing policies;
  • work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English, in person, in writing, and on the telephone;
  • think critically; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload;

work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision.

Able to distinguish colors as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with workplace / patient care;

see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to the position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications : Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC) obtained within three years of hire date.
