We are seeking a Social Emotional Learning Manager (SEL Manager). The ideal candidate will bring a passion for the mission of HCZ Promise Academy, an understanding and respect for the culture of all residents of Harlem, and a desire for working in a school setting that fosters a love for children.

In collaboration with the Director of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), the SEL Manager will support the SEL Team to meet its goals by coordinating school based SEL logistics, facilitating communication between SEL team and school administration, and effectively collaborating with external stakeholders.

The SEL Manager is a proponent of social and emotional learning services to support all students. The SEL Manager will ensure that SEL services are provided and supported throughout Promise Academy schools.

The SEL Manager will be evaluated and observed by the Director of Social Emotional Learning.

Goals :

  • Support and align with the District Leadership in their vision for social-emotional learning at Promise Academy.
  • Coach, model and support the implementation and integration of SEL into the day to day life of Promise Academy Schools.
  • Ensure tier one social-emotional learning support is implemented with fidelity at all schools.
  • Responsible for delivering high quality professional development opportunities for school staff.
  • Responsible for delivering high quality workshop opportunities for family members and stakeholders.
  • Hold all SEL facilitators and staff accountable for their responsibilities to the work.
  • All principals and school teams will receive ongoing communication about relevant policies and protocols that require their input or action.

What you'll do :

  • SEL facilitator training - Ensure staff are trained and prepared for facilitation
  • Leverage data to strategically support the social emotional growth of students
  • Monthly SEL facilitator planning meetings
  • Ensure SEL lesson scope is up to date
  • Conduct formal SEL lesson observations and report back to Director of SEL and school teams areas of concern
  • Oversee the implementation of the district-wide SEL evaluation tool
  • Hold monthly meetings with admin teams & Director of SEL to review SEL progress
  • Collaborates with the Education Directors & Academic Coaches to infuse SEL skills and content into existing course structures.

Observe and support staff in this work.

  • Ensure school counselors complete and share out monthly Community Huddle outlines
  • Work with school counselors to coordinate the Book Club in Elementary
  • Support training and implementation of restorative practices, models, and facilitates restorative conferences as needed
  • Ensure and track that SEL unit curriculum assessments are completed and submitted on time.
  • Create and implement a system to get regular feedback from SEL facilitators on curriculum progress and effectiveness
  • Oversee the implementation of district-wide SEL data tool (two to three times per year)
  • Works with school teams to outline next steps to target SEL growth areas based on SEL data collected.
  • Reports out monthly on the following data points : number of SEL lessons by grade, number of formal SEL observations by grade, number of restorative conferences by grade, staff that do not attend facilitator meetings and why.
  • Track attendance at all SEL professional development, workshops, and facilitator meetings
  • Ensure SEL website is updated regularly with relevant resource
  • Support in ongoing professional development of restorative practices
  • Attend and support monthly parent SEL workshops
  • Attend and support monthly staff SEL workshops
  • Model SEL best practices and teacher SEL lessons when appropriate
  • Provide individualized, classroom-based coaching to support teachers in implementing best practices to promote SEL, establishing supportive learning environments, restorative practices, and developing supportive classroom management practices.

What you'll bring :

  • Basic knowledge of SEL best practices and interventions to meet students’ social and emotional needs.
  • Knowledge of adult learning styles and best practices for coaching and providing feedback.
  • Ability to develop respectful professional relationships, build trust with teachers.
  • Cultural competency and ability to navigate and promote sensitivity with issues of race, disability and equity.
  • Ability to coordinate and collaborate with diverse groups of professionals across multiple departments and organizations.
  • Experience coordinating and delivering professional development for a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Skilled multi-tasker and excellent time manager; ability to effectively achieve multiple goals and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Passion and urgency for the critical role of social emotional learning for improving the lives of students and families.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Google Drive.
