Civil Engineer (Structural) - DIRECT HIRE
Summary
Located in the Technical Service Branch of Western Federal Lands Highway Division. Performing duties related to implementing the bridge and structural portions of the Federal Lands Highway program.
Projects are primarily located on Federal lands managed by other Federal agencies and cover a multi-state area. Serves as technical support and helps develop, promote, and apply sound planning, inspection, design, construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance practices related to structures.
Duties
As a Civil Engineer (Structures), you will :
- Interpret and apply relevant structural codes for design, construction, testing, and maintenance of structures, including seismic design and retrofit.
- Develop Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) for bridges and other highway structures that comply with FLH Bridge Design Manual, AASHTO LRFD, Bridge Design Specifications, AASHTO Construction Specifications, and other appropriate standards and guidelines.
- Use advanced analysis to help develop novel design concepts for both new construction and rehabilitation, as needed, to address project needs and advance the state of the practice.
- Coordinate closely with the project team leader and the other involved disciplines such as Hydraulics, Geotechnical, Highway Design, Environmental, Traffic, Safety, and Materials in the identification and development of information required for sound engineering decisions regarding the type, size, and location of structures.
- Under the team leader’s guidance, develop preliminary plans for structures that show type, size, and location (TS&L) of the proposed structures.
The ideal candidate for this position is a seasoned mid-career structural engineer with experience independently and effectively working in multi-disciplinary teams, providing bridge design services as well as developing or leading the development of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates packages, and using Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) and design software programs in detailing structures.
