Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for the proper performance of a variety of procedures in the Blood Bank, consistent with professional standards and departmental protocols, policies and procedures.
- Promptly and accurately prepares specimens and performs testing procedures following approved protocols.
- Conducts routine quality control procedures and ensures that test systems are operating within established specifications.
- Ensures the proper working order of all equipment and that there are adequate supplies reagents for use.
- Performs ABO and Rh typing. Runs antibody screening tests. Resolves unexpected antibodies using appropriate cell panels.
- Sets up and interprets crossmatching of patient’s sera with donor cells. Signs out blood products following Department protocols.
- Performs venipuncture procedures when required. Covers weekend shifts when required
Blood Bank Supervisory Responsibilities
- Responsible for the proficiency and competency assessment of staff in the Blood Bank.
- Responsible for ongoing quality assurance
- Responsible for staff training in the Blood Bank
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Licensure / Certification / Registration : Must have MT, MLT, BB or SBB (ASCP) certification or equivalent.
- Education : BS in Medical Technology or related science field
- Other Qualifications : Five to ten years Blood Banking experience, Three to five years supervisory experience
