Under general supervision, performs vascular andechocardiography ultrasound examinations for patients. Participates in a variety of specializedtechnical evaluation procedures, including analyzing digitized electrocardiography(ECG) tapes, Holter monitoring, cardiac ultrasound and echocardiography, andgenerating quantitative arrhythmia reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Performs diagnostic cardiovascular and echocardiographyultrasound examinations according to department proceduresLocates and records internal elements of the body, includingblood vessels and organs, and identifies any anomalies indicative of disease,injury, or other medically significant conditionPerforms imaging and non-imaging cardiovascular evaluations,including exercise tolerance tests, Holter monitoring, event recorders,electrocardiograms, stress tests, and transesophageal echocardiographyAdjusts equipment and explains procedures to relax patientto eliminate test artifactsMonitors the patient for potentially dangerous physical andemotional changesRecognizes abnormal rhythms and immediately notifiesphysician.
- Evaluates test results forclarity and accuracy; reviews tests with peersInforms physicians of preliminary findings as requested, andaccording to department proceduresDistributes completed test results to physicians and serviceprovidersMaintains patient charts, enters diagnosis and billingcodes, logs data into patient information systems, and updates file systems fortests performedCleans and sterilizes equipment and work spaceRecognizes equipment malfunctions and adjusts equipment orrefers for repairInstructs patients in pretest preparation, answers questionsand explains proceduresSets up patient room and maintains stock area for proceduresincluding linens, electrodes, and cassette tapes;
