The Center for Education and Career Opportunities (CECO) program offers individuals aged 16 21 years old without a high school diploma the chance to return to school to continue their education.

This program is run in coordination with King County and its Open Doors high school partner.

The Transitional Studies Navigator is a central member of the CECO team. Under the supervision of the CECO Program Manager and Director, the CECO Transitional Studies Navigator is responsible for recruiting, enrolling, guiding, and communicating between Basic Education for Adults (BEdA) and CECO to ensure that services and policies align.

This includes providing wraparound support for all CECO Transitional Studies students as they navigate through the Adult Basic Education (ABE) / English as a Second Language (ESL) programs and into other career and college pathways.

In coordination with other Transitional Studies staff, this Navigator will also play a key role in assisting the unit with key processes around onboarding and BEdA grant compliance.

The position offers navigation and student support, success coaching, and barrier reduction to ensure that students are not only successful within ABE / ESL, but that they can successfully transition to the next level of their educational and / or career pathway.

Primary responsibilities include the following :

Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of CECO Transitional Studies students

Facilitate initial student pathway development to provide appropriate career, college and pathway navigation for students

Facilitate student career / college exploration, working one-on-one with students to help them navigate their academic and career goals including transition plans to college level classes with CECO staff

Coordinate wrap-around support and services with CECO and Transitional Studies staff to increase student success, well-being, and retention, e.

g., funding, counseling, workforce opportunities, etc.

Facilitate student connection to support services on and off-campus and follow-up, check-in, and connect with students regularly.

Meet with students one-on-one to assess potential barriers and develop strategies for support and student success.

Develop, maintain, and sustain relationships with other programs and relevant departments on-campus : Transitional Studies, Workforce, Counseling, & Advising

Support and oversee broader CECO Transitional Studies administrative processes that include course construction, testing, data collection, and reporting.

Assist in assessing student retention, persistence, and success data to develop processes and supports to close obligation gaps.

Assist with strategic program development and college-wide participation and advocacy.

Use cultural awareness and student-centered practices to help students build a sense of belonging and connection in the program as well as in their broader community.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience :

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

OR two years of related experience in an educational or social services setting, mentoring, coaching, counseling, or advising students / clients

Knowledge Of :

Computer and database management skills including CRMs, grant reporting databases, Microsoft Office 365 Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word programs

Collecting, organizing, and managing client / student / program data

Knowledge of the needs of students seeking and participating in Open Doors programs

Methods and strategies for community engagement, recruitment, and outreach

Current theories including student development theory, leadership development theories, and equity and social justice frameworks

Skill In :

Working with marginalized student populations, specifically youth and young adult learners

Working directly with students, providing navigation, advising, or counseling support services

Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness

Time management, organization, and ability to meet competing deadlines / priorities

Entering and / or retrieving data accurately in computerized record keeping systems

Handling difficult and sensitive situations, using sound independent judgment within college & legal guidelines

Writing / editing / proofreading clear and concise materials resulting in effective oral and written communication with individuals inside and / or outside of the College

Establishing / maintaining effective working relationships at all organizational levels

Ability to work with a diverse group of students, staff, and the public in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner

Conditions of Employment

Physical Work Environment :

The College is currently providing services in a mixed modality of operations (both online and in-person services are offered).

This position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus.

Please note, there may be limited opportunities for online work depending on program or area needs. If authorized for online work, employees will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs.

Terms Of Employment / Salary :

This position is allocated to pay range 53, under the Washington State Office of Financial Management highereducation salary schedule.

Salary placement for new employees is determined by the College. This position works 40 hours per week, with a schedule dependent upon department needs.

Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.

PART-TIME FACULTY POSITIONS

A part time faculty member becomes eligible for benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education.

Spring and fall quarters are considered consecutive quarters for benefits eligibility. Half time is determined based on each institution's definition of full time.

A part time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options.
