Job Summary and Qualifications
What you will do in this role :
- Participates in hospital or departmental performance improvement activities, and seeks opportunities to improve department and inter-department processes.
- Serves as a resource to department staff, students, volunteers and other departments, and contributes to the teamwork essential to ensuring quality patient care.
- Takes appropriate measures to ensure safety of staff and patients.
- Oversees implementation of The Joint Commission trauma guidelines.
- Co-chairs the multidisciplinary trauma team.
- Works collaboratively with the Chair of the multidisciplinary trauma committee and other physicians to ensure best evidenced-based care is delivered.
- Assesses the needs for policies, procedures, protocols, supplies and equipment relating to the care of trauma patients in coordination with the Trauma Medical Director, hospital administration and clinicians.
- Assists the Trauma Medical Director in the development, implementation and evaluation of a quality and process improvement plan that is multidisciplinary and focused on patient outcomes.
- Serves as the coordinator of the identification, investigation, reporting and follow-up of incidents and quality issues throughout the program.
- Stays current in trauma patient care guidelines.
- Maintains at least 8 hours of trauma CNE annually.
- Responsible to maintain quality and integrity of the trauma program.
- Ongoing trauma data analysis
- Works with the Emergency Service Line Leader to meet financial goals
- Facilitates cost-containment.
- Educates nursing staff and other disciplines in assessment and care of trauma patients.
- Collaborates with the Emergency Service Line Leader and Quality to promote the strategic goals of the organization of improving stroke care
- Collaborates in the development, implementation, education, and distribution of trauma information / materials related to patient / family education.
- Conducts routine rounds on nurses to assure continuity of care, satisfaction, and communication.
- Functions as a facilitator for nursing excellence.
- Participates in health promotions and educational community involvement and life time learning.
- Participates in development and evaluation of professional practice by participating on unit and / or hospital committees, special projects and attendance at staff meetings and town halls.
- Actively participates in hospital performance improvement activities.
- Develops, coordinates and implements orientation, nursing education and in-service programs related to care and management of trauma patients in conjunction with the Department of Education and Training and the Emergency Department Clinical Education Specialist.
- Directs community trauma education and prevention programs by developing, implementing and evaluating programs for targeted populations in the city and surrounding communities related to injury prevention, as well as other topics identified through a needs assessment for the community.
- Attends county and state-wide meetings pertinent to EMS and trauma care, as well as professional meetings.
- Supervises the collecting, coding, scoring and development of processes for validation of data entered into the Trauma registry.
- Acts as an extended liaison for Emergency Medical Service agencies and the community.
- Participates in the North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council (NCTTRAC) and the Governor’s EMS & Trauma Advisory Council (GETAC) meetings and committees.
- Maintains membership and participation in the Texas Trauma Coordinator’s Forum (TTCF).
- Performs other duties as required.
What qualifications you will need :
License and Certifications :
- TX RN License or RN Compact State License.
- BLS (AHA).
- ACLS (AHA).
- ENPC OR PALS (AHA).
- CEN preferred.
Education :
- BSN required.
- Membership in professional organization (ENA, AACN, AORN) preferred.
Experience :
Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in trauma / emergency care.
