Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Head Start Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation LEAD provides early childhood mental health consultation and program development as a key member of the Head Start team.

This position provides culturally responsive and affirming child and family-focused consultation, classroom-focused consultation, program-focused consultation and relationship-based reflective processing to Head Start staff, children, and families.

Works collaboratively with Denver Great Kids Head Start staff and delegate agency staff on behalf of the children and families being served by Denver Health.

Subscribes to an evidence-informed practice framework to manage and facilitate clinically informed prevention and intervention.

Effectively manages consultation caseload and consultation documentation. Experienced in trauma-informed care practices and principles.

Engages in grant writing, grant reporting and grant procurement and data collection.

Essential Functions :

  • Provide services that are appropriate to the age and developmental level of the service recipient. (10%)
  • Consult with providers as part of the SBHC multidisciplinary team and generate recommendations and referrals. (5%)
  • Advocates as appropriate in a professional manner. (5%)
  • Works as a member of multidisciplinary teams within delegate agencies, Denver Great Kids Head Start and the Head Start Early Childhood Mental Health consultation team demonstrating collaborative relationship skills. (5%)
  • Participate in Denver Great Kids Head Start department meetings to maintain cohesion and improve awareness of department functioning. (5%)
  • Responds to clients and referral needs in a timely professional manner. (5%)
  • Works diligently to protect the confidentiality of patient information sharing patient information only when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities or to improve a patient's care. (5%)
  • Completes weekly documentation and monthly documentation for various grant reports and PIR. (5%)
  • Participates or provides leadership of department, agency, or community meetings as well as internal Denver Health workgroups. (5%)
  • Provide teaching and presentation of relevant topics to the Denver Public Schools staff and SBHC Behavioral Health Department staff. (5%)
  • Participate in academic efforts in research and professional writing. (5%)
  • Participates in grant writing and pursuit of additional program funding to sustain and grow services (5%)
  • Participates in grant reporting and data collection for grant reporting. (5%)
  • Help Team Supervisor pursue possible CRM system to better support data collection. (5%)
  • Participates in research and possibly procurement of client relationship management system and or data base. (5%)
  • Participate in ongoing learning and research on models of Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation and assessment tools to ensure best practice and effectively manage program outcomes. (5%)
  • Co-lead and develop working model of power, privilege, and oppression groups to create ongoing ant-bias and anti-racist practices. (5%)
  • Participate and assist in creation of program development projects (5%)
  • Assist in employee interviews (0%)
  • Participate and help train new employees. (0%)
  • Work in collaboration with the Team Supervisor and all other members of the team to improve overall program development. (0%)
  • Co-lead team meetings and power, privilege and oppression meetings with Team Supervisor. (0%)
  • Participate in creating a path and plan for team members to pursue IECMHC (infant and early childhood mental health consultation) endorsement. (5%)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Advanced knowledge of reflective supervision practice
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and motivation to work as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team in a school-based settings.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality of patients' records.
  • Skill in establishing a treatment alliance and engaging the client system in goal setting and prioritizing.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to tolerate ambiguity.
  • Advanced knowledge of early childhood mental health, including typical child development and parallel process.
  • Knowledge of social emotional theories in education such as Pyramid and Conscious Discipline.
  • Experience with trauma-informed care and ability to apply to a large system / community.
  • Familiarity with systems interventions and assessment.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and ability to respond to trauma in both children and adults.
  • Knowledge of patient populations†cultural, religious, ethnic, and social systems in interactions, care planning, and education.

Familiarity with community resources available to children and families.

  • Ability to maintain firm boundaries and confidentiality - to manage professional relationship including termination.
  • Ability to respond to feedback and incorporate into practice.
  • Comfort in providing group training and working collaboratively with others
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
