GENERAL SUMMARY
The lab coordinator position provides non-instructional support for lab activities in the Machining Technologies program, Welding Fabrication program and non-credit training.
While the primary function is to support faculty and students (non-instructional activities), there will be an opportunity to work with faculty in order to develop instructional skills.
Non-credit training may provide additional opportunity for the lab coordinator to develop instructional skills, creating a pathway towards becoming an adjunct instructor or fulltime instructor.
Duties and Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES
The following duties and responsibilities are representative of the types of work this position will engage in but should not be considered an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities.
Maintain Machine Technologies Lab
- Light maintenance on equipment. Cleaning units / chip trays / conveyors. Fluid maintenance and changes, maintaining fluid levels in equipment reservoirs
- Equipment set up, tooling changes
- Running equipment as needed to ensure proper operation
- Material receiving
- Processing material for student projects
- Tooling maintenance / organization
Maintain Welding Fabrication Lab & BNSF Lab
- Light maintenance on equipment. Replacing band saw blades, belt-grinder belts, greasing lubrication points, maintaining equipment surfaces / tracks, and filling and cleaning evaporative coolers, maintaining fluid levels in equipment reservoirs.
- Exchanging compressed gas cylinders, exchanging wire electrode spools, liners, tips
- Material receiving
- Processing material for student projects
- Material and Supply organization
Support AMC Director, Faculty, and Staff with overall maintenance of the AMC
- General housekeeping
- Inventory control
- Set up classroom and labs as needed for specific instruction or training activities
- Train, onboard, and supervise work study employees.
Other Duties as Assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education : (Required / Minimum)
Associate degree
Experience : (Required / Minimum)
At least one year of experience in a machine shop or weld shop.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities : (Required / Minimum)
- Skilled in working with underrepresented student populations including students of color, first generation and low-income students, and students with disabilities.
- Skilled at Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Mechanical aptitude
- Ability to regularly lift 50lbs
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to create and follow schedules
- Ability to work under direct supervision and ability to work independently
- Effective time management skills
- Ability to engage in repetitive detailed oriented work
- Ability to read a tape measure
- Ability to measure angles
- Ability to maintain part tolerances
- Ability to follow safety policies, procedures, and protocols
- Ability to use checklists and complete log entries
- Ability to use / learn to use dolly, pallet jack, and table lift pallet jack.
- Ability to acquire a forklift certification
Preferred Qualifications :
Licensure / Certification : (Preferred)
Certified forklift operator with forklift experience.
Equipment Used :
Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Adobe Acrobat, forklift, dolly, pallet jack, table lift pallet jack, copy machine, fax machine, and various shop machinery such as : Track and CNC OFC and PAC equipment, Bandsaw, Shear, etc.
