Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lab Automation Manager to lead our lab automation team in SLC. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in laboratory automation, robotics, and process optimization, and will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of automated systems within our laboratory environment.
This role requires excellent leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
Responsibility
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers utilizing lab automation and software skills.
- Provide technical leadership and drive best practices for design, development, testing, and deployment of liquid handling systems.
- Identify liquid handling needs and specifications in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Communicate project progress, challenges, and solutions to senior management and stakeholders.
- Write and maintain software for interfacing with liquid handling robots, other laboratory equipment, LIMS, and users.
- Develop and recommend methods, tools, and designs for process improvement.
- Participate in selection and development of new liquid handling platforms.
- Develop and maintain the instrument testing process to ensure that protocols meet specifications, are efficient, and are robust.
- Implement and maintain safety protocols for the use of liquid handlers in the lab.
- Ensure all liquid handling systems comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Help resolve production lab issues and engineer long-term solutions through root cause analysis and data analytics.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of industry experience engineering laboratory automation solutions.
- BS or MS in a relevant field (biological or engineering) or equivalent experience.
- Prior experience working in a regulated environment with design control.
- Biotech, pharmaceutical, lab automation, LIMS and / or clinical laboratory experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated trouble shooting skills in an integrated robotics system running dynamic processes.
- Hands on development experience with liquid handling platforms (e.g., Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman).
- Proficiency with integrating third party instruments into liquid handlers or robotics workcells.
- Experience writing and modifying custom software (e.g., Python, C#) to control lab instrumentation.
- Experience with molecular biology or chemistry techniques.
