Atlas Medical Group located in Troy, Michigan is searching for a Surgical Coordinator to join their growing team.
The Surgical Coordinator is responsible for the hands-on completion of the specialty surgical scheduling process.
The Surgical Coordinator will complete the full cycle of the Surgical Boarding Process, including the following items : completion of the Surgical Boarding Sheet, direct communication with the hospital as applicable for scheduling procedure and OR time, direct communication with the patient to ensure clearance for the surgery, review and completion of all preparation and documentation is submitted and authorization is received.
The Surgical Coordinator must have a strong attention to detail and be comfortable with follow through communication and scheduling project coordination.
This service-oriented individual will have a keen understanding of how compassionate patient care and quality of care impact a growing diverse Medical Practice.
This is an onsite role.
The ideal candidate for this opportunity will reside in Michigan and have prior experience as a surgical coordinator with completing and managing surgical scheduling.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Utilizes knowledge of medical terminology to transcribe and prepare the OR Surgical Boarding form, patient medical information, medical reports and other materials as needed.
- Assures completion of the OR Surgical Boarding form and faxes according to hospital protocol.
Contacts hospitals or surgery centers to confirm boarding sheet has been received, and confirmation of date and time of procedure.
- Submits requests for medical clearance, if necessary, as well as insurance authorizations and referrals
- Provides patients with OR / Surgery / Procedure instructions / directions as provided by / directed
- Works closely with members of the multidisciplinary team.
Must cultivate a good rapport with physicians and staff to promote good working relations.
Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.
Education and / or Experience :

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Additional college or vocational school coursework preferred.
- Highly preferred prior similar experience in a podiatry office.
- General knowledge of medical terminology.
- Detail oriented and strong follow through skills.
- Good telephone etiquette.
- Excellent verbal and writing skills.
- At least 1 year experience in healthcare setting.
- Experience with insurance authorization process preferred.
- A clean driving record and reliable transportation
