Position Description
This position is responsible for assuring smooth operation of the front clinic patient flow. Employees serve as primary contacts for patients and are responsible for scheduling appointments, preparing necessary paperwork before the patient visits, receiving patients, and maintaining records.
In addition, this position may responsible for processing charges for clinic services, filing insurance claims, responding to requests for information from patients and insurance companies and maintaining related information for the department.
Employees may be responsible for cash.
Major / Essential Functions
- Supports the service plus philosophy of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
- Adheres to institutional and departmental safety polices and procedures.
- PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT : Serves as a Mentor and promotes, assesses, and evaluates the educational
needs and requirements specific to job disciplines of your staff and self within your departmental assignment.
- Respond to patient inquiries.
- Verify patient benefits.
- Follow up with patients regarding benefits.
- Obtain referrals / Verify insurance for designated providers.
- Corresponds with patients on status of pre-certification process.
- Obtain pre-certification for procedures and Surgeries, Radiology and all other testing ordered in the clinic for her
designated providers. Document information accurately in IDX and power chart. Obtain pre-certification for

Collect a deposit on surgical patients before the patient leaves the office or contact them by phone prior the
procedure for payment. Create and send.
- Fills in for other Managed Care staff when needed.
- Exceptional customer service skills, great attention to detail, and a self starter.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. 3 years Customer Service, office or related experience, with 2 of those years in a healthcare or dental clinic setting preferred.
Additional education may substitute for the experience requirement.
