Position Summary
The Import & Export Compliance Analyst is responsible for the Import and Export regulatory compliance. This position supports STERIS’ import and export activities through monitoring and maintaining the STERIS Compliance Program.
In this role, you will ensure that STERIS international shipments are handled in an efficient manner while meeting all international Customs and U.
S. government export and import laws. In addition, you will assist other team members with understanding regulations and clearing shipments with all government agencies.
Duties
- Maintain and update the STERIS Harmonized Classification Database as required.
- Properly classify STERIS products with the correct harmonized code for Customs entry and export.
- Distribute the Harmonized Classification Database to STERIS Customs brokers.
- Prepare and submit binding tariff ruling requests for various products as required to support accurate import tariff classification, valuation, origin, and marking of STERIS US and Canada imports.
- Respond to Customs inquiries.
- Answer questions & provide information to STERIS Customs brokers as it relates to Compliance and other government agency inquiries.
- Ensure STERIS importations are compliant with the U.S. and Canadian import regulations in all areas including but not limited to : valuation, country of origin, trade preference programs, reported quantities and packaging markings.
- Assist STERIS locations with determining country of origin of manufactured goods based upon Country of Origin regulations.
Procure all required information for participation in all Trade Preference programs as required and ensure STERIS products properly qualify, should STERIS participate in one or more program.
Provide and maintain any and all certification surrounding the participation in such program(s), including but not limited to :
USMCA (US-Canada-Mexico)
KORUS (US-Korea)
AUSTFA (US-Australia)
Israel
Singapore
Columbia
Peru
Panama

- Declare GSP (Generalized System of Preferences) for goods being imported and having country of origin from GPS relevant designated countries.
- Ensure China exclusions are being applied to import declarations as applicable.
- Work with appropriate departments to obtain FDA, EPA, and TSCA information for US importation.
- Obtain and process APHIS and USDA permits relating to importation of goods applicable.
- Handle TIB (Temporary Importation under Bond) and T&E (Transportation & Export) bonds as needed.
- Request Post Summary Corrections (US) and B2 (CA) corrections as required.
- File Commodity Classification Automated Tracking System (CCATS) to obtain the proper Export Control Classification Number (ECCN)
Have working knowledge of STERIS compliance system, Integration Point.
Perform compliance checks as required.
Evaluate compliance failures for correctness and override failure if not valid after investigation.
Address issues and assist users with operating the system.
- Prepare Customs invoices when required to support the movement of STERIS cargo.
- Calculate and submit to brokers reconciliation valuation timely.
- Ensure STERIS participation and maintenance in various Customs security programs as deemed necessary.
- Provide insurance certificates and steel / aluminum license applications as required.
- Assist the Import & Export Compliance Supervisor in the evaluation of Customs brokers and international transportation providers.
- Provide assistance to all STERIS Internal / External Customers as it relates to resolving issues relating to Customs or export regulation issues to or from a STERIS or STERIS supplier / vendor facility
- Provide assistance with other department duties as required.

Required Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- 4 years experience in Customs related activity.
- Experience with classifying goods with US export and import HTS codes.
- Must have demonstrated proficiency using personal computer applications, with at least 3 years experience using email (Outlook), word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), and Windows applications.
Must be able to effectively work with Excel spreadsheets using formulas and functions.
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively and tactfully interact with customers and others at all levels of the organization and in outside agencies.
- Demonstrated effective decision making, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, results driven environment.
Preferred Experience
Customs broker license and / or knowledge in international transportation processes, preferred.
Work Schedule
- This is a hybrid schedule position based in Mentor, OH.
- The schedule is : 3 days / week onsite (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday) and 2 days / week remote (Tuesday, Friday).
