DESCRIPTION
Under supervision, assisting with performing genetic research project aimed at identifying causative factors / biomarkers involved in ophthalmic diseases.
Incumbent will participate in recruiting patients for clinical studies, explaining the contents of consent forms, tissue processing and maintenance of data base with records of patients and samples.
In addition, perform techniques including, but not limited to experiments involving Polymease Chain Reaction (PCR), DNA and RNA extractions, transforming cell lines, processing tissue and blood samples, genotyping, mutation screening and protein analysis.
Responsible for maintenance of tissue, DNA, and other samples. Other duties include maintaining research database, assisting with general laboratory maintenance, provide training to students and lab personnel, ordering supplies, disposal of biohazardous, miscellaneous laboratory waste, record keeping, maintaining accounts and preparing / renewing IRB applications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Theoretical knowledge of a life science as is typically acquired by a Bachelor's Degree in a field related to the research being conducted such as biology, genetics, molecular biology or biochemistry or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in general laboratory techniques and molecular techniques; biochemistry, molecular biology, basic genetics.
Knowledge and experience with basic and general techniques in molecular biology.
Ability to work with minimum supervision and to work closely and collaboratively with others including the ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Demonstrated ability to prepare solutions at proper concentrations, operate analytical balances and perform accurate calculations.
Ability to communicate clearly and interact with patients.
Ability to read and interpret protocols and policies.
Experience in operating various lab instruments including balance and autoclave.
Experience with measuring, weighing, and mixing chemicals.
Experience with personal computers. Ability to use database and spreadsheet.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with calibration and maintenance of test equipment used in fluid / tissue analysis.
Familiarity with recruiting, screening, tracking and retaining subjects for research studies,
Phlebotomy certification and / or willingness to obtain one.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Must be willing to work with patients, process patients' blood and tissue samples and work in patient and animal-related research environment.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range : $53,766 - $64,143 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent : $25.75 - $30.72
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
