Position Summary
The University of New MexicoInternal Audit Department is seeking an Internal Auditor. This is anexceptional opportunity for a highly motivated professional to be an integralstaff member of an important independent department.
The Department reportsadministratively to the UNM’s President and functionally to the UNM Board ofRegents’ Audit and Compliance Committee.
Internal Audit is currently lookingfor an auditor to assist UNM personnel in effectively, efficiently, andeconomically fulfilling their assigned responsibilities by providing objectiveanalyses of the activities reviewed.
The auditor’s job is to performoperational, compliance, financial, and investigative audits of intermediatecomplexity, provide management advisory services.
Work is occasionally detailedand errors may cause delays, disrupt activities, and affect the accuracy of anaudit.
Duties and responsibilities for the Internal Auditor include :
- Develop audit plans and perform initial and follow-up audits in accordancewith professional standards.
- Evaluate audit findings; prepareand present the results of audit work and recommendations to management in theform of oral and written communications.
- Coordinate and interact withadministrators, faculty, staff, and external audit and law enforcementagencies, as needed.
- Consult with and adviseuniversity administrators, faculty, and staff on operational and administrativeissues.
- May supervise and / or lead lowergraded staff and / or student employees.
- Keep abreast of Universitypolicies and procedures, current developments in accounting and auditingprofessions, and changes in local, state, and federal laws, as applicable.
- Perform miscellaneous job-relatedduties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Accounting, MBA, MPA, etc.
- Banner experience.
- Electronic work paper software experience.
- Intermediate or higher working level in spreadsheets that show ability to quantify and illustrate routine financial reports, comparisons, impacts, and / or projections.
- Intermediate or higher working level in word processing.
