Description : The King County Sheriff's Office has an exciting opportunity to serve as a member of their Human Resources team.

This position will encompass a wide variety of Human Resource functions primarily focused on deputy talent acquisition. Duties may include but are not limited to candidate sourcing, recruiting, acting as the Civil Service recruitment liaison, providing advice and counsel to leaders and employees, and participating in the development and management of programs, processes, systems, and strategies in support of Human Resource and talent acquisition functions for the department.

WORK SCHEDULE : This is a full-time position with a typical work schedule of Monday through Friday, from 8 : 00 am to 4 : 30 pm.

This position is overtime eligible, with prior authorization.

Requirements :

Research and identify recruiting, advertising, and outreach opportunities and events. Participate in coordination of events and activities including outreach and recruitment events;

work closely with internal recruiting team and Civil Service teams. Attend events and promote employment opportunities for deputy positions.

Generate diverse applicant pools in support of Equity and Social Justice Goals through outreach and sourcing.

  • Network and build relationships with local groups and other agencies; assist in the development of effective networks with King County staff, officials, other jurisdictions, and citizen groups to support development and implementation of projects.
  • Leverage social media for sourcing candidates through a variety of media outlets.
  • Manage and provide a positive candidate experience, keeping an open line of communication throughout the recruitment and backgrounding processes, answering candidate questions, and providing technical support as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with leadership, hiring managers, and other human resources staff on recruitment and a variety of HR functions and topics.
  • Provide a wide variety of information, advice, and consultation to employees, management, and the public concerning human resource programs, policies, and procedures, and provide technical analysis, consultation, and / or assistance.

Interpret and apply union contract language, local, federal, and state law and regulations.

  • Research and respond to general inquiries, draft correspondence, and update and maintain visual management tools.
  • Manage HR databases, records, and other electronic systems, prepare reports, graphs, charts, and other ad hoc reports.
  • Manage meeting logistics for a variety of tasks, including in-person candidate processes (testing, interviews) by sending meeting appointments, making room reservations, configuring meeting rooms, securing and arranging audio / visual equipment, and running online meetings or interviews.
  • Research and respond to human resources inquiries; inclusive of human resources information systems and specific agency databases.
  • Occasional travel to job fairs and recruitment events may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Qualified candidates will have progressive Human Resources experience to include talent acquisition or any combination of education / experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the scope of job duties of this position;

AND experience in the following areas :

  • Have familiarity or experience managing full-cycle recruitment including sourcing and providing consultative advice to hiring managers.
  • Demonstrated skill in human resources principles and practices with the ability to apply knowledge to Sheriff’s Office Human Resources.
  • Skill in decision-making; determining need to elevate matters or consult others.
  • Strong strategic problem-solving ability, customer service, organizational, analytical, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well independently or as part of a team.
  • Experience researching, analyzing, and interpreting laws, policies, processes, and procedures; developing effective recommendations.
  • Demonstrated skill at working collaboratively, creating relationships, building trust and rapport with a diverse group of people and professionals of different levels of management and staff.
  • Experience in Human Resources to include Federal, State, and local laws.
  • Ability to build a genuine collaborative and consultative style in their approach to their work.
  • Ability to build and understand the importance of establishing effective relationships with customers, team members, hiring managers, and other staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and is very politically savvy. Must be comfortable providing advice and consultation to senior leaders within the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Lead value-added discussions that challenge conventional norms and thinking.
  • Ability to stay organized, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Skilled and comfortable using an office productivity suite and the ability to use Outlook, application tracking, SharePoint, and other internet-based tools in their daily work (the county uses Microsoft Office, Teams, and NeoGov).
  • Experience working with confidential records and / or archives and management of electronic documents.
  • Ability to investigate, learn, and facilitate other remote collaboration tools where appropriate.
  • Skilled in project research including but not limited to web research, data collection, and spreadsheet management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

Highly Desirable Qualifications :

  • Experience working in the court system or with law enforcement.
  • Experience in understanding union contracts and how they affect HR processes.
