- Job Summary : Physician to serve as a member of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, within the Department of Internal Medicine;
- directs and provides direct and indirect patient care services in both inpatient and outpatient settings; conducts ambulatory clinics;
- interviews, obtains and reviews medical history of patients; performs physical examinations to assess medical or surgical needs;
- performs procedures relevant to specialty; orders special procedures, diagnostic testing, and other ancillary services; responds to consultation requests;
- determines, prescribes and implements treatment plans and / or medications required; documents all services and instructions provided in medical record;
- educates patients and promotes wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials, resources and services to patient and their families;
- directs and participates in quality assessment and improvement activities; serves as preceptor and provides bedside training of residents, fellows, medical students, undergraduate & graduate students, nursing staff, and other allied medical professionals in the specialty area;
ensures continuing medical education requirements are met; participates in department, college, medical center and university committees and other service activities.
Required Qualifications : Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). Board certification or eligibility from the American Board of Internal Medicine required;
active certification from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) required. Completion of an accredited residency in internal medicine and a fellowship training program in gastroenterology or hepatology required.
