Job Summary
Teach a variety of instructional courses related to Computer Information Systems (programming and data analytics fields) at Mesa Community College.
The courses may include Object-Oriented Programming Fundamentals, C# Level 1, Python Level 1, Java Level 1 and various introductory database courses (including MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server and NoSQL alternatives)
Essential Functions
- Supervises and instructs a diverse population of students in a classroom and / or online setting
- Develops written syllabi / course outlines and uses a range of course materials
- Evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students records, scholastic records
- Utilizes departmental and college support systems to maximize student learning and engagement ( Dropout Detective)
- Prepares and grades assignments, including exams (if used)
- Maintains subject-matter knowledge and skills that reflect industry approaches to data analytics and software development
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The Occupational Teaching Fields require the following from an accredited college or university :
- A Master’s degree in the teaching field OR
- A Master’s degree in any field with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field OR
- A Master’s degree in any field with a combination of 24 upper division and / or graduate credits in the teaching field (Upper-division courses are Junior and Senior level courses in obtaining a Bachelor’s degree) OR
- A Bachelor’s degree and three years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
- Five years of occupational experience in the field to be taught OR
- A Journeyman certification in the field to be taught
Desired Qualifications
- Two (2) years’ work experience in systems analysis, database administration, app development or a related field
- Previous experience with teaching, training or extensive delivering technical presentations
- Demonstrated excellence in communication skills
- Previous experience with an online LMS ( Canvas)
Special Working Conditions
- Travel to campus during interview / selection process will be at candidate’s own expense
- May require some evenings or weekends
- May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
- May be required to lift or carry up to 25 pounds
