Description
Seeking Local On-site Professional Medical Interpreters located in Utah (Salt Lake Valley). This is not Remote Work. Must be located in Salt Lake and surrounding areas, specifically : Murray, Ogden, Layton, Bountiful, Provo.

RELA provides interpretation services primarily for health care needs. Language Interpreters facilitate communication between health care providers and limited English proficient patients.
This role is essential for fostering understanding and enhancing patient care through accurate language interpretation. The interpreter plays a vital role in ensuring clear and effective communication between patients and providers while adhering to the Code of Ethics for Interpreters in Health Care.

Key Responsibilities :
- Facilitate clear and accurate communication between healthcare providers and patients.
- Conduct pre-session briefings to set clear expectations about the interpreting process.
- Interpret Providers’ medical advice and information accurately.
- Assure patient comprehension.
- Adhere strictly to medical confidentiality and ethical standards and adhere to professional boundaries.
- Navigate cultural nuances to improve mutual understanding.
- Maintain professionalism and punctuality in all interactions.
- Exhibit a positive attitude & maintain a customer service orientation.
- Conduct pre-sessions with both patients and providers to explain the interpreter's role.
- Interpret medical advice and information accurately while maintaining confidentiality.
- Assure patient comprehension and assist with appointment scheduling.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to professional boundaries.
- Explain cultural differences or practices to health care providers and patients when appropriate.
- Exhibit a positive attitude, customer service orientation, and professionalism.
- Be punctual, and adhere to the Code of Ethics for Interpreters in Health Care.

- Certificate from a nationally accredited 40-hour medical interpreter training program (e.g., Bridging the Gap, The Community Interpreter).
- Demonstrable fluency in English and target language(s), especially seeking those with expertise in medical terminology in both working languages.
- Ability to travel to various healthcare facilities within the designated area.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the capability to handle stressful and delicate situations effectively.
- Pass a background check and drug screening.
Skills and Requirements :
Fluency in English and the non-English working language, with the ability to understand complex grammar, structure, syntax, and medical terminology in both languages.
A language assessment will be required at some point during the hiring process.
- Prior experience or training in medical terminology is preferred but not required, as long as the candidate is willing to learn and adapt quickly.
- One year of related experience and a high school diploma or GED.
- Completion of a nationally accredited 40-hour training program, such as Bridging the Gap or The Community Interpreter, or equivalent (Preferred).
If not completed, candidates must be willing to complete the training. Note : 1099 subcontractors are required to pay for their training.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to handle stressful situations, and cultural awareness.
- Flexibility and ability to work outside normal working hours.
- Pass a background check and health screening.
Job Types : Part-time / On-Call & Independent Contractor
Salary : $18.00 - $33.00 per hour (depending upon language, experience, training)
Experience
- Interpreting : 1 year
- Qualified or Certified Medical and Community Interpreter (Trained) : 1 year (Preferred)
Education :
- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
