Work Location : Manhattan and travel within NYC’s five boroughs
Compensation Range : $21.00 hourly
SHARE Cancer Suppor t is a national nonprofit that supports, educates, and empowers anyone who has been diagnosed with breast and gynecologic cancers, and provides outreach to the general public about signs and symptoms.
We are a compassionate community of knowledgeable survivors, those living with cancer, and healthcare professionals.
SHARE Cancer Support is seeking an addition to their Ambassador Program. The Program is a grassroots community organizing effort designed to reach out to women in medically underserved communities throughout NYC and reduce outcome disparities in patients with breast or gynecological cancers through education and support initiatives, as well as to reach women pre-diagnosis.
SHARE Ambassadors reach thousands of women in underserved Latino communities in NYC.
Responsibilities :
- Networking on behalf of SHARE to establish relationships (e.g., community and health organizations, colleges, schools, churches, food pantries and shelters) to distribute informational packets within the Black communities
- Outreach to community partners and introduce SHARE’s services and information packets
- Represent SHARE at public events, communicate SHARE’s mission / programs / services and disseminate information regarding, risk factors, screening, symptoms, treatment and survivor stories, In-person or virtual presentations at events as requested
- Deliver educational bilingual presentations in collaboration with our Black and / or Chinese Outreach teams
- Track participation and submit reports / feedback to LatinaSHARE Director and LatinaSHARE Outreach Manager
- Attend SHARE trainings and meetings as requested
Qualifications :
- Bilingual - Spanish - English
- Enthusiasm or experience with SHARE Cancer Support’s mission, programs or services
- Working knowledge of or participation in the Latino community organizations / events
- Willingness to learn about breast and gynecological cancers, and their impact on Latina women and their families
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Demonstrates caring and empathy in interactions with others
- Punctual and reliable
- Basic computer skills
