Position Description Summary :
We are seeking an experienced Director of Estimating at GEM Plumbing and Heating to oversee all aspects of construction projects, from initial planning to final completion.
In this dynamic position, you will calculate the necessary materials, equipment, and labor for all construction projects.
This role involves working with blueprints to create comprehensive lists of all project costs, ensuring accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
You will be working closely with our clients, subcontractors, and vendors to prepare proposals and negotiate work in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
- Evaluate the cost-effectiveness of products, projects, or services, and track actual costs relative to bids as the project progresses.
- Prepare information for value-engineered projects.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
- Provide management with estimates for planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
- Work with design-build owners.
- Prepare estimates for selecting vendors or subcontractors.
- Review material and labor requirements to determine whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components.
- Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation regularly throughout the project duration.
- Maintain and update a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Establish cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
- Prepare detailed and accurate labor, materials, and equipment takeoffs.
- Prepare, coordinate, and convey project-related instructions, information, questions, and clarifications between management and various vendor / subcontract groups.
- Analyze changes in scope effectively and provide an estimate maximizing profit potential.
- Review all reported document scope and take-off inconsistencies and provide direction to the estimating department.
- Collaborate with construction managers, engineers, vendors, and personnel from other departments to discuss and formulate estimates.

Education :
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- College diploma is required.
Experience :
A minimum of 10 years of related work experience is preferred.
