Nine months of state funding annually. Anticipated start date is August 1, 2024, or as mutually agreed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Developing and sustaining a vigorous extramurally-supported, collaborative research program that complements existing expertise in the department and school;
- Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences and taking a role in developing and instructing core courses for the Applied Climate Science degree pathway
- Achieving excellence in both classroom instruction and active participation in graduate and undergraduate advising, mentoring, and teaching.
- Promoting diversity and inclusion in the Atmospheric Sciences, especially to Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders, in ways that align with the foundational principles of the University of Hawai'i Strategic Plan;
- Carrying out professional service activities by providing service to the public, department, school, university, and larger scientific community.
Minimum Qualifications
- A doctorate (at the time of appointment) from a college or university of recognized standing and in a field relevant to the position;
- Demonstrated ability as a teacher
- Demonstrated scholarly achievement
- Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively;
- Demonstrated capability for creative, high-quality research;
- Ability to interact effectively with students and / or assistants when appropriate;
- Commitment to our shared values of inclusion, mutual respect, collaboration, justice, and equity so that people from every background feel welcome and can thrive.
Desirable Qualifications
- Demonstrated university-level teaching or mentoring experience;
- Demonstrated ability to attract extramural funding;
- Demonstrated ability to work on multi-, inter-, or transdisciplinary research;
