About the Position

We are seeking CEI Inspector I candidates who will provide Construction, Engineering, and Inspection (CEI) services for transportation projects located in the state of Georgia.

This posting is for future, long-term, onsite CEI Inspector I positions located in the greater Atlanta, GA, area or potentially other areas around the state.

Responsibilities

  • Will perform independent complex inspections of roadways and structure, construction processes, and materials to assure compliance with the construction contract.
  • Will perform moderately complex inspections or supervise other inspectors conducting routine and standardized inspections.
  • Work includes inspecting asphalt and concrete for acceptable materials and mix; pavement for proper spreading, rolling, depth, alignment and compaction;
  • roadways and structures for conformance to plans, and specifications; structural materials and members; placement of culverts;
  • structural operations such as foundation excavation; placement of piling, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete and backfill;

and traffic control and erosion control devices.

  • May also perform the more complex variety of calculations and computations.
  • Will perform contract documentation duties, which include field measurements of pay items as well as other Department required documentation.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1.5+ years' experience working as a CEI Inspector Aide.
  • Proficiency with computers (e.g., Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Outlook, internet, etc.)
  • Considerable knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
  • Considerable knowledge of mathematical functions including geometry.
  • Skill in the use of office equipment such as calculators and computers.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and explain such things as construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures.
  • Ability to take notes and prepare or review reports.
  • Ability to instruct other employees in proper work methods.
  • Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with Georgia Law.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work and maneuver equipment, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites.
  • Must have the ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to drive large pick-up trucks and / or trailers.
  • Must have the ability to use hands to operate field equipment.
  • Must have close, distance, and peripheral vision with normal auditory function.

Required Certifications

  • Passing scores on GDOT's Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests Group 1 (General Provisions, Auxiliary Items, Basic Highway Math, Basic Highway Plan Reading).
  • Passing scores on GDOT's Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests Group 2 (Pavements, Bases, Subbases, Minor Drainage Structures, Construction Erosion Control).
  • GDOT WECS.
  • GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification.
  • GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control).

Certifications from other agencies or states may possibly be substituted.

Compensation Details

The salary range listed for this role is $52-62K annually ($25-30 / hr.) It is not common for starting salaries to come in at the very top of the range;

they usually fall somewhere in the middle. The final salary offered is based on multiple factors and is thoughtfully aligned with each candidate's level of experience, breadth of skills, total education achieved, certifications / licenses that have been obtained, etc.
