Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Two years of experience in designing and manufacturing assistive technology devices for individuals with disabilities, or two years of full performance level experience in carpentry or a related trade, one year of which must have been in the designing and manufacturing of assistive technology devices for individuals with disabilities.
Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
The Adaptive Equipment Specialist (AES) works to create, modify, fabricate, and maintain the assistive technology devices of the individuals we serve.
Assistive technology device is any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
Examples of the assistive technology devices are hospital beds, complex rehab technology including wheelchairs, seating, and accessories, shower chairs, mechanical lifts, and adaptive dining equipment.
The AES will work collaboratively with the Physical and Occupational Therapy Departments when a clinical assessment completed by PT / OT indicates the need for equipment.
Once the equipment is identified, then the AES will either design and fabricate the equipment or assist the PT / OT in procuring prefabricated equipment to meet the identified need.
The AES will assist with the delivery and installation of assistive technology devices.
- The AES will assist the PT / OT departments with staff training on assistive technology devices.
- The AES completes and documents bed inspections in EHR per local DDSO policy. The AES will complete any necessary modifications or accessory installations needed to bring the bed to compliance.
- The AES will maintain an adaptive equipment workshop, back up equipment (including mechanical lifts), and safety items.
- Daily travel throughout the DDSO will be required.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Knowledge and experience with complex rehab technologies including wheelchairs, seating, and accessories.
- Computer skills including Microsoft word, excel and Electronic Health Record software.
