Job Summary

Battelle is seeking a Compliance Geoscientist to support the Energy Division in Commercial Carbon Capture, and Storage (CCS) programs.

This position is located in Columbus, OH or Houston, TX, but will consider remote locations.

  • As a Compliance Geoscientist, the selected individual will primarily provide regulatory, compliance and permitting support (EPA Class VI and CARB) for commercial CCS projects.
  • Provide support to individual project managers on compiling Class VI permits.
  • Work closely with the technical and operations team to ensure accurate and compliant permits.
  • Work with EPA and / or CARB and appropriate state agencies to ensure timely submittal and issuance of permits.
  • Stay abreast of new related developments associated with individual state primacy.

Technical :

  • Thorough understanding of long term injection operations, including monitoring technologies
  • Understanding of commercial CCUS opportunities, especially those pertaining to 45Q and LCFS projects.
  • High technical quality; ingenuity, creativity; work with client to define technical objectives

Project Management :

Conduct / lead major technical projects w / time and budget constraints with minimal guidance from management; prepare status reports and presentations;

instruct others about safety procedures

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geoscience, Petroleum Engineering or other closely related field with 6 years of experience in permitting, specifically within the EPA UIC program, focused on Class VI or Master's degree in related field with 4 years of relevant experience or PhD with 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Significant experience in operational environments, with a focus on injection
  • Demonstrated project management experience with commercial and industrial clients
  • Self-motivated, organized, and exhibits leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be US Person

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD.
  • Demonstrated experience with CCUS pilot projects
  • Experience with CARB and other state agencies with Class VI primacy
