Job Overview

We are a small but mighty Philanthropy and Marketing team. A fast-paced, innovative department with a big team spirit.

The Director of Philanthropy Northern California is responsible for developing and building positive relationships, making asks, and implementing communication strategies that continuously cultivate these relationships with individual and corporate donors in Northern California.

As an integral member of the Philanthropy and Marketing team, s / he will research, do outreach, conduct donor solicitation, and continually grow our base of sponsors and donors to support our programs and meet fundraising targets.

This position is remote unless face-to-face solicitations, donor tours, events, etc. are required.

Key Responsibilities

Donor Development Responsibilities :

Ensures that gifts are raised from individuals, major donors, businesses and foundations in Northern California, providing support in all areas of Philanthropy, as determined by the Chief Philanthropy and Marketing Officer.

Administrative Responsibilities :

  • Establish, maintain and manage a portfolio of approximately 150 high net-worth individuals, families, and private foundations from identification to cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Cultivate the donors already in the HealthRIGHT 360 portfolio if not assigned to others.
  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, lead tours, and assist the board and other staff with their solicitations (e.g.

provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications).

  • Build our portfolio of corporate donors through corporate sponsorships, partnerships, volunteer events, lunch & learns etc.
  • Lead our major annual fundraising events, working with an Event Consultant who will assist with event production and logistics.

Make asks to raise individual and corporate sponsorships to underwrite the events. Develop and lead the event committees.

In consultation with the Chief Philanthropy and Marketing Officer, create and implement targeted events for prospects and donors.

This may include ticketed events, small donor dinners or other formats that will motivate, engage and educate prospects and donors.

Ensure donor acknowledgement, stewardship and public recognition, as appropriate.

Board of Directors Responsibilities :

  • Governance Board and Foundation Board prospect identification, cultivation, and relationship management.
  • Engender a highly engaged and motivated board membership.

Administrative Responsibilities :

  • Provide support in all areas of Development when needed.
  • Demonstrate and reinforce collaborative leadership with staff and colleagues and contribute to a team-oriented culture.
  • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database.
  • Ensure that data related to prospects and donors is recorded and tracked in electronic files; manage campaign record keeping, evaluate progress towards goals, prepare monthly updates on fundraising to be included in the Philanthropy report to the Board;

recommend ideas for implementation to help meet the annual campaign goals.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required :

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Graduate Degree preferred.
  • At least eight or more years combined experience in donor relations, with strong connections to the Northern California philanthropic community.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Raiser’s Edge.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills including public speaking, meeting facilitation, and presentations.
  • A sophisticated understanding of the regional landscape and inter-relationships between various stakeholders including key influential people, elected officials, nonprofit leaders and others.
  • Familiarity with donor management database systems, and ability to research necessary information on prospects.
  • Ability to successfully and effectively represent HealthRIGHT 360 and merged agencies in diverse forums and maintain a broad spectrum of relationships with donors and potential donors.
  • Ability to build a donor base.
  • Must not be on active parole or probation.
  • Must be vaccinated and boostered.

Knowledge Required :

  • Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Outlook, and internet applications.

  • Able to communicate well at all levels of the organization including working with organization leadership and high-level representatives of partner organizations.
  • Able to work within a frequently changing project scope while maintaining overall direction and structured priorities.
  • Ability to successfully and effectively represent HealthRIGHT 360 in diverse forums and maintain broad organizational relationships.
  • Ability to use Raiser’s Edge.
