EMI Services is looking for a Water Treatment Operator to control treatment plant machines and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption and for industrial use.

Work includes dumping chemicals such as alum into tanks to coagulate impurities and reduce acidity, recording data, such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity, and water pressure.

The Water Treatment Operator may operate portable water-purification plant to supply drinking water, and purify wastewater from plant preparatory to pumping water into rivers and streams or city mains.

The ideal EMI Services Water Treatment Operator possesses an ADEQ Class 2 water treatment certification.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plant and dumps specified amounts of chemicals such as chlorine, ammonia, and lime into water, or adjusts automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water
  • Start agitators to mix chemicals and allows impurities to settle to bottom of tank, turns valves to regulate water through filter beds to remove impurities, pumps purified water into water mains, monitors panel board and adjusts controls to regulator flow rates, loss of head pressure and water elevation and distribution of water
  • Cleans tanks and filter beds, using backwashing (reverse flow of water), repairs and lubricates machines and equipment, using hand- and power tools, tests water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities, using colorimeter, turbid meter, and conductivity meter
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Essential Skills

  • Ability to use and knowledge of all tools and equipment that are used by the craft
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, construction drawings, schematics and diagrams as they pertain to the craft
  • Ability to perform work of the craft in a rapid and efficient manner under extreme conditions
  • Ability to perform work safely under hazardous conditions
  • Ability to trouble shoot and repair most complex problems
  • Expert knowledge of craft theory and craft materials with the ability to apply the theory and select the proper materials
  • Must have the ability to operate numerous equipment for the trade forklifts, scissor / man lifts, bobcat backhoe, etc.
  • Must be able to operate any industrial size tools to complete all tasks table saws, band saws, planers, sanders and routers

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess a ADEQ Class 2 water treatment certification
  • Valid driver’s license without special restrictions
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check
  • Regular, dependable attendance
  • U. S. citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations

Physical Requirements

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical and periodic retests
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned
  • Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions including summer temperatures peaking around 120 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Must be capable of lifting 75 lbs. unassisted
