The responsibility of the Chief Financial Officer is to oversee the network operations to achieve the highest levels of productivity and profitability.
As part of the Network Office management team, the Chief Financial Officer anticipates the needs of the office, plans for its growth, recommends necessary changes, and takes independent action within areas of authority.
The Chief Financial Officer subscribes to the philosophy, principles and practices of the Northwestern Mutual and Network Office.
The CFO focuses on the strategic impact of operations and how to maximize talent and resources to align with the Managing Partner’s vision, executing on increasing efficiencies while managing expenses.
The CFO understands and anticipates the future opportunities and challenges of the organization and develops a strategy to redirect, refine and execute on associated priorities.
Specific Responsibilities Include :
Network Office Management Team
- Directs the strategic planning and infrastructure management of the Network Office to include anticipating the future needs of the organization and creating an operational and financial strategy to align with the Managing Partner’s vision.
- Provides leadership and direction to other operations professionals who are part of their organization (Chief Operations Officers, Directors of Operations, Office Managers from the network office and district network offices).
Network Office Operations Support Team
- Interviews and hires quality Director of Account and / or Staff Accountant(s).
- Manages the Director of Account and / or Staff Accountant(s) and ensures that there is alignment of financial representative support.
- Recommends to the Managing Partner the skills and amount of support required.
- Trains, either directly or indirectly, the team members in all aspects of their responsibilities.
- Assures there is adequate coverage through cross training.
- Ensures that annual performance reviews practices are followed and recommends salary increases and promotions to the Managing Partner.
- Establishes standards for employee records and administers benefits.
- Holds the support team accountable and establishes procedures to document performance problems and, if necessary, terminates staff with less than acceptable performance.
- Creates and maintains employee handbook.
Administrative Procedures
- Reviews all home office communication and ensures that managing directors, detached and housed financial representatives and staff are informed on a timely basis of any procedural changes regarding the finances of the firm.
- Establishes and regularly reviews all administrative procedures to ensure that the business needs of the network office and the requirements of the home office are met, and initiates changes.
- Works in partnership with the Managing Partner to plan for agency development, recommending changes in staffing, equipment, office space or layout, financial representative training and support necessitated by development plans.
Financial Responsibilities
- Oversees finances of the network office.
- Forecasts expenses and works with the Managing Partner on expense and resource management.
- Monitors income and expenses against projections and recommends adjustments to the Managing Partner.
- Administers financial representative advances and manages financial representative indebtedness.
- Oversees financial training for financial representatives.
- Assures there is adequate reconciliation of operating accounts on a monthly basis.
- Ensures that there is proper calculation of allowances, charges, and loans.
- Maintains integrity of financial systems.
- Determines responsibilities for accounting, petty cash management, payroll, etc.
- If desired by the Managing Partner, assures there is assistance to new financial representatives with financial management.
- Analyzes financial reports for the Managing Partner.
- Maintains proper financial documentation (W4s, payroll taxes).
- Prepares information for annual tax returns.
- Oversees and directs the work of the accounting staff.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, preferably in business or an equivalent combination of education and / or progressively responsible work experience.
Advanced degree (MBA, CPA, etc.) recommended.
- Five to seven years of experience in a management position with strong operations, human resources and financial acumen, preferably in a financial services organization.
- Associate Agent Contract strongly preferred.
- HR designation preferred.
- Proven ability to lead change and manage people.
- Strategic agility experience.
- Demonstrated leadership to motivate and hold others accountable.
- Proven ability to influence without authority.
- High degree of initiative.
- Superior written and oral communication skills.
- High degree of organizational skills.
- Financial training or background, with emphasis on financial planning and budgeting.
- Ability to take independent action to make sound decisions.
- Knowledge of state and federal Human Resources laws.
- Ability to be diplomatic and flexible.
- Experience in strategic business planning.
- Ability to handle change, pressure, and criticism.
- Team-oriented.

Pay : $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
