Position Overview
The Portuguese Language Program at KU is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic graduate student to assist in promoting enrollment in Portuguese language courses.
The graduate student assistant will work closely with the undergraduate student assistant and faculty members to enhance student engagement and support the growth of the Portuguese language program.
Job Description
- Collaborate with the undergraduate student assistant to develop and implement strategies for promoting the Portuguese program on campus and within the university community.
- Assist in organizing recruitment events, informational sessions, and workshops to attract students to Portuguese courses and generate interest in the program.
- Provide support and guidance to undergraduate students interested in enrolling in Portuguese courses, including answering questions, providing resources, and facilitating connections with faculty members.
- Assist in creating and disseminating promotional materials, such as brochures, newsletters, and social media posts, to raise awareness of the Portuguese program.
- Preference will be given to a student currently enrolled in a Portuguese course. Secondary preference will be given to a student who has completed Portuguese courses at KU.
Required Qualifications
Current graduate student at KU.During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours.
For summer periods the student hourly must : 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA / GTA / GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with students, faculty, and staff to promote the Portuguese program effectively.
- Passion for languages, multiculturalism, or international education.
- Experience working independently and collaboratively as part of a team, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Prior experience in student recruitment, event planning, or marketing is desirable but not required.
- Preference will be given to students who speak Portuguese or are enrolled in a Portuguese course.
