As a Service Mesh Engineer within PNC's Security Technology organization, this is a remote position. Work may be performed from a quiet, confidential space in a home location, approved by PNC.

This position may not be available in all geographic locations.

  • tExperience with service mesh platforms like Istio, with a focus on Tetrate's Istio solutions.
  • tFamiliarity with Layer 7-aware proxies like Envoy, HAProxy, NGINX with a focus on Envoy and understanding of their role in traffic management within a service mesh.
  • tAbility to analyze and optimize system performance, security, and reliability, with a focus on meeting the stringent requirements of the financial domain.
  • tExperience with monitoring, logging, and tracing tools to improve observability.
  • tKnowledge of the full software development lifecycle : from business / systems analysis, through requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to development, testing and delivery.
  • tAbility to troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed to resolve issue.
  • tKnowledge of computer development software across multiple platforms.

Job Responsibilities :

  • tPerform design tasks and develop components of application and technical architecture Develop test cases and data.
  • tExecute tests for the application or technical architecture components, work with other programmers, designers, and architects to meet application requirements and performance goals, participate in code reviews, inform the technical architect, and project manager of any issues that may affect any other areas of the project, fix any defects and performance problems discovered in testing, document the application to facilitate maintenance.
  • tAssists with selecting appropriate platforms, integrates and configures solutions.
  • tDesign, implement, and manage a service mesh architecture using Istio, with a focus on Tetrate's Istio solutions, ensuring compatibility with financial industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • tConfigure and manage service-to-service communication using Envoy as a Layer 7-aware proxy, including advanced traffic management features such as routing, load balancing, and resiliency patterns like circuit breaking and retries.
  • tEnforce security policies and secure communication between services using mTLS and Istio's policy enforcement capabilities, while adhering to financial sector security standards.
  • tMonitor and analyze service mesh metrics, logs, and traces to improve observability, identify performance bottlenecks, and troubleshoot issues effectively.
  • tCollaborate with development, architecture, and operations teams to integrate applications seamlessly into the service mesh, with a focus on OpenShift and Azure cloud platforms, ensuring that the service mesh supports the company's cloud strategy.
  • tStay current with the latest service mesh technologies, best practices, and community developments to drive continuous improvement of the service mesh infrastructure.
  • tDevelops software components and hardware for new and emerging technology projects; aligns these with business strategies and objectives.
  • tMay provide consultation on common issues and best practices for junior staff.
  • tProvides a systematic analysis on client requirements within the traceability framework and resolves any functional problems encountered.
  • tEnsures quality of project deliverables while maintaining compliance with relevant standards and processes.

  • Develops software components and hardware for complex projects; aligns these with business strategies and objectives.
  • Provides expertise on best practices, standards, engineering approaches and complex technical resolutions for processes.
  • Places emphasis on quality improvement efforts; ensures that deliverables are secure, scalable and reliable through estimation and correction.
  • Communicates with customers and integrates their needs with development, to meet business objectives.

Pay Transparency

Base Salary : $110,500.00 $179,400.00

Salaries may vary based on geographic location, market data and on individual skills, experience, and education. This role is incentive eligible with the payment based upon company, business and / or individual performance.
