Internship Hours Per Week : Fully in person up to 35 hours per week
Hourly Rate : Sliding Scale based on Education Level ($18-$23 Per Hour)
Program : Air, Energy, & Materials Sustainability Division of Air Enforcement Bureau of Air Compliance & Enforcement
Program Description : Air, Energy and Materials Sustainability (AEMS) is responsible for the following :
- develops statewide programs, policies, permits and regulations for controlling and reducing air quality and climate change pollutants and air toxics
- ensures regulated entities comply with the NJ Air Pollution Control Act
- reduces public exposure to radiation, mitigates climate altering pollutants, researches clean energy sources and supports sustainable initiatives
- oversees inspection, investigation, registration / licensing and enforcement operations and recycling of waste regarding solid, hazardous and medical waste
- enforces the operational compliance requirements for underground storage tank systems and minor source vapor recovery systems
- is dedicated to the environmentally sound and cost-effective management of solid and hazardous wastes and recyclable materials to protect public health, preserve the environment, and enhance the quality of life for the citizens of the State of New Jersey.
- Project Description : Under the direction of a supervisory officer in a state department or agency, receives on-the-job training in practices / procedures and applications and preparation of reports, completes assignments which will provide practical experience;
assists the office with routine duties, administrative tasks, and database work; does other related work.
Specific to the Position : Assists in the coordination of administrative activities of the Bureau. Develops protocols and generates reports to track the timeliness of related information.
Develops operating procedures; evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of existing processing systems; works with staff to ensure quality control and timely issuance of documents are met.
Maintains records and files. Preferred skills include effective written and verbal communication, as well as being a quick learner.
Preferred Area of Study : Environmental Science, Sustainability, Planning, Environmental Engineering, Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science or similar degree program.
License : Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Residency : All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.
J.S.A. 52 : 14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".
Authorization to Work : Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.
