Position Summary
This position is responsible for the timely and accurate posting of payments and adjustments in accordance with department guidelines.
This position is hybrid with the ability to work remotely 2 days a week and 3 days a week in office.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Timely and accurately post a high volume of insurance and patient's payments and adjustments and patient and insurance refunds via electronic file, paper remittances and credit cards.
Retrieve and post remittances from payer websites when the remittance is not available.
Reconcile all payments to the account, remittance, and batch on a daily basis and maintain balancing spreadsheets.
Resolve and apply unidentified receipts daily.
Reconciliation of cash and check receipts to daily deposits.
Update and maintain all logs and spreadsheets used for reconciliation.
Research all payer and patient credits to determine if a refund is due.
Post refund checks issued by accounting for overpayments.
Maintain and follow adopted internal controls.
Maintain an acceptable error rate within department policy.
Research unidentified payments and or recoupment to determine the appropriate resolution.
Identify issues with billing and coding and reimbursement related to payment reconciliation and communicate with supervisor.
Offer input and maintain reporting requirements relative to cash applications spreadsheets.

Required Education & Experience
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
Two years cash applications experience in a medical setting is necessary.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to read and interpret payer remittance
Advanced computer proficiency including Microsoft Excel.
Ability to work independently and meet critical deadlines.
Ability to perform tasks that require a basic understanding of accounting and math skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of health care billing / coding practices, regulations, and laws.
Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Athena.
Good follow-up skills.
Strong attention to detail.
