Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer (61034343)

Job Responsibilities

Plans, organizes, and directs subordinate foreman, and / or crew(s) engaged in selected bridge building and maintenance repair projects.

Supervises the construction and maintenance of concrete and timber bridges to include pile driving, deck setting, stud ups, deck repair, joints, etc.

Ensures all specifications are met in construction. Prepares claim reports detailing labor, material, and equipment cost repair.

Performs periodic shop, yard, building, work zone, equipment, environmental, etc. inspections to ensure compliance with appropriate state and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Conducts unannounced SCDOT work crew field operations inspections. Supervises the coordination of utility relocation and permitting acquisitions when required to ensure bridges are replaced on schedule.

Supervises contract and contractor solicitation to ensure materials and services are available when needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience;

or an approved acceptable equivalence.

Physical Requirement : The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time.

This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling.

This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards.

May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and / or other departmental-related emergencies.

This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.

A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
