Position Focus :

The Project Manager will contribute to a variety of projects and programs that advance and grow the activities of the Academic Affairs, Education, and Research Division at the Yale Center for British Art (YCBA), a division committed to sharing and building knowledge about British art.

Reporting to the Deputy Director for Academic Affairs, Education, and Research, the Project Manager will be responsible for executing projects initiated by the Deputy Director.

The Project Manager will design and oversee projects and programs in support of the division’s goal and strategy plan, conduct project-related research for the Deputy Director, establish timelines, produce writing, oversee the timely completion of deliverables, and collaborate with departments across the museum and other Yale units.

This is a writing-intensive position in which the successful candidate will be expected to communicate clearly and effectively across disciplines and audiences.

The Project Manager will undertake a range of activities to drive forward divisional initiatives, including but not limited to course development, proposal and report writing, bibliographic work, publication development, and review and analysis of scholarly writing.

More specifically, the candidate will devise the intellectual rubric, structure, and content of object-focused courses; teach and co-teach classes;

undertake research into the museum’s holdings; and develop a variety of other projects that may take the shape of conferences, proposals, publications, or symposia.

There will also be opportunities to work with students through teaching, the development of student-focused projects and initiatives, and the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.

The Yale Center for British Art houses the largest collection of British art outside the United Kingdom, encompassing works from the fifteenth century to the present in a range of media.

Essential Duties

1. Manages special projects ranging from academic to financial from inception to completion, which requires quantitative analysis, independent research, and the proposal of resolutions or conclusions.

Creates and envisions programmatic initiatives and communication strategies. 2. Designs and develops communications strategies for special projects.

Develops and exercises a keen understanding of the multiple audiences and contributing University offices involved in a given project to ensure that individual communications are rolled out within a structure planned in advance and with appropriate communication among key stakeholders.

3. Envisions, creates and authors a wide variety of sensitive and high-level written materials. Serves as coordinator and executor for a range of internal and external committees.

May participate in decisions regarding committee work. Advises panelists on precedents and prior actions. 4. Serves as Secretary for committee(s), manages informal and formal resolution processes and voluminous correspondence.

5. May supervise the work of project coordinator and administrative staff. 6. Serves as liaison to other departments on all communications.

7. Contributes to design, organization, and maintenance of department website. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and four years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill / Ability 1 :

Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Attention to detail and ability to proofread text.

Required Skill / Ability 2 :

Exceptional organizational skills, including the effective use of computer tools for planning and tracking progress of tasks associated with project plans.

Required Skill / Ability 3 :

Strong interpersonal skills and a proven track record of working collaboratively with a wide range of audiences and stakeholders.

Required Skill / Ability 4 :

Knowledge of art history or related field in the humanities.

Required Skill / Ability 5 :

Self-direction and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills :

PhD in art history or related field in the humanities. Five years of related work experience, preferably in a museum environment.
