DEFINITION
Under general supervision, the College and Career Transition Coach will be responsible for providing personalized guidance and support to our students to help them successfully navigate the transition from high school to post-secondary education or the workforce.
This position plays a crucial role in empowering our students to achieve their academic, career, and personal goals beyond graduation.

TASKS :
The College and Career Transition Coach’s responsibilities encompass a wide range of crucial tasks. The primary focus will be on building meaningful relationships with students, providing personalized one-on-one and group coaching sessions to help them set clear educational and career objectives.
The coach will guide students through the college application process, assisting them with researching potential colleges, completing applications, and preparing for admissions interviews.
Additionally, the coach will play a vital role in supporting students in understanding the financial aid process, identifying scholarship opportunities, and completing necessary paperwork.
The coach will conduct workshops and provide various assessments that will aid students in exploring various career paths, matching their skills, interests, and goals to appropriate opportunities.
Through workshops and training sessions, they will enhance students' employability skills, including resume writing, interview preparation, and professional etiquette, preparing them for successful entry into the workforce.
Maintaining a connection with the school's alumni and utilizing their experiences will serve to inspire and support current students in their transition to higher education or the workforce.
Moreover, the coach will collaborate with local colleges, universities, vocational schools, and businesses to establish partnerships that provide students with additional resources, internships, or job opportunities, broadening their horizons.
As the coach develops working relationships with students they will diligently track and monitor their progress in their college and career goals, providing ongoing support and making necessary adjustments to their plans.
They will also take the initiative to organize and conduct workshops and information sessions for parents and guardians, actively involving them in their child's transition planning and college application process.
The coach will frequently assess the effectiveness of the college and career transition program. The coach will be expected to maintain accurate records of student interactions, progress, and outcomes, ensuring that our strategies continue to evolve and meet the diverse needs of our students.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS :
Knowledge of District and Department policies and procedures. Knowledge and understanding State and Federal activities standards Knowledge of developmental levels of school age children.
Knowledge of various teaching techniques and methods.
Skill in applying common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Skill in reading and interpreting documents such as rules, instructions, and procedure manuals.
Skill in writing routine reports and correspondence. Skill in effective written and oral communication.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Skill in basic math computations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent sitting, repetitive motion, vision to monitor, and may require some lifting.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or related field. Experience working with high school students in a counseling, coaching, or mentoring capacity.
Knowledge of college admissions processes, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities. Familiarity with career assessment tools and job market trends.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, parents, and external partners. Strong organizational abilities to track student progress and program outcomes.
Sensitivity to the diverse needs and backgrounds of students at an alternative high school. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
