Position Summary
The Program of Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a jointly appointed tenure track position at the Associate Professor level.
The successful candidate will serve as Director of the Program. The appointee will have an academic record tenurable at associate level and will be eligible for off-cycle tenure review upon accepting the position.
The finalist’s tenure home and joint title will be assigned at the time of hire. Obligations of this position will be shared between Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies (75%) and a tenure home department (25%).
Appointment will begin August 10, 2025. We are interested in individuals with experience in academic leadership, and research and teaching in interdisciplinary gender, feminist, queer and / or sexuality studies at the intersections of race, ethnicity, religion, and / or disability.
We are interested in candidates from any disciplinary or interdisciplinary background with a record of sustained scholarly achievement.
Duties include leading a vibrant interdisciplinary program, and research, teaching, and service to the University. Successful applicants will develop and implement a sustainable, innovative and inclusive vision for the program’s growth.
The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a robust research program that inspires a highly motivated undergraduate student body.
The role entails a 2 / 2 teaching load, with one course reduction per year as director. Successful applicants must possess the skills to mentor undergraduate research and teach compelling core curriculum courses including Introduction to Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies, interdisciplinary lecture and seminar courses, and courses focused on gender and / or sexuality through a global and / or intersectional perspective.
Required Qualifications Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in gender, feminist, queer, sexuality studies, or a related field at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2025).
Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in inclusive teaching and mentoring undergraduate research in gender, feminist, queer and / or sexuality studies is preferred.
