Position type : Part Time, hourly
Salary : $15-$20 per hour
Schedule : Weekly delegation meetings (weekday and time to be confirmed)
Position Overview : The Youth & Government Advisor is responsible for the YMCA of Greater Boston’s YAG Delegation including the development of branch / association wide curriculum / meetings, supervision, participation in the state wide YAG program and fostering relationships with high schools students at our YMCA’s / schools.
Under the supervision of the Regional Teen Director your role will include facilitating and planning group activities, engaging guest speakers / volunteers and check in’s and reviewing youth delegates bills.
The Youth & Government Advisor will reinforcing our character traits- responsibility, caring, honesty, and respect throughout the program as well as provide a safe environment for all the young people at your YMCA.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES :
- Under the leadership and support to the Regional Teen Director, the YAG Advisor will assist with the recruitment, training, and supervision of the Greater Boston YMCA Youth & Government delegation.
- Advisors are responsible for assisting their delegation through the process and providing the preparation they need to attend conferences.
- The health and safety of participants is an ongoing responsibility and Advisors should abide by the current accepted YMCA Health & Safety standards.
- All Advisors are the representatives of their local YMCA and YAG Program and should be a positive role model to their delegates and other advisors.
- While at conferences Advisors will attend all required Advisors meetings and assigned duties. They will ensure that each delegate attends their scheduled sessions, delegation meetings, and abides by the YAG Code of conduct.
- Advisors will work with delegates to complete their program area responsibilities; creating legislation, research, authoring proposals, and any other tasks to complete.
- Work with the Regional Teen Director, to set goals and review the standards in the implementation of activities that foster creativity and awareness including various cultural, educational, recreational, environmental and social issues.
- Work with the management team of YMCA to coordinate service delivery and ensure a youth / teen friendly and safe environment.
- Maintain and monitor enrollment and participation in YAG programs.
- Supervise, check in’s and coordinating YAG YMCA of Greater Boston program.
- Attend, plan and help with the teen professional development trainings for YAG young people.
- Alongside the Regional Teen Directors, the YAG Advisor will support with the recruitment and retention of YAG program.
- Build relationships with schools and community partners to engage more young people in the YAG program.
- Plan engagement events and end of the year celebration for delegates.
- Create monthly summary regarding the impact and work of the YAG delegation.
- Responsible for program photos and testimonials for YAG program.
- Maintain and care for all program areas and supplies.
- Meet all reporting and tracking requirements for YAG program.
- Communicate program information, problems and concerns as they occur.
- Abide by established YMCA policies, procedures, regulations and guidelines; ask when in doubt.
- Perform duties as requested by supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS :
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Driver’s License for 3+ years.
- Be able to attend all weekend conferences and weekly meetings.
- Have basic understanding of the state, judicial, and legislative processes.
- Have basic group facilitation & presentation skills.
- Relate well to and enjoy working with high school aged youth.
