Position Summary
The ACP-California Communications Director is a part of ACP's State Affairs team, and greater Advocacy department, working with ACP-CA's staff and consultants in California.
This newly created position will play a pivotal role in ACP-CA's growth and maturation, overseeing the organization's strategic communications as California pursues an unprecedented buildout of clean energy infrastructure to meet its ambitious climate goals.
The Communications Director will work alongside the ACP-CA Executive Director and Pacific Offshore Wind Director to develop and implement communications strategies, manage media relations, build a network of supporters, and create and distribute effective messaging to foster a positive information environment to support the clean energy industry's growth.

Messaging and Strategy : Develop, guide and implement the communications strategy for ACP-California and the subset of members in the California Council of Offshore Wind Leaseholders (CCOWL).
Create and / or oversee the creation and distribution of print and electronic collateral including factsheets, blogs, presentations and videos to promote the utility-scale clean energy industry and offshore wind in California.
Build ACP-CA's brand and name recognition among media outlets and policymakers in California.Media Engagement :
Manage all media contacts and media engagement at ACP-CA events.Manage and increase engagement with ACP-CA's social media platforms.
Maintain and update the ACP-CA and CCOWL webpages.Draft press releases, media advisories, and op-eds to promote ACP-CA's strategic initiatives.Member Coordination :
Build and maintain strong relationships with member companies and their public relations firms to coordinate effectively on messaging and strategies that support the industry writ large.
Initiate and lead communications strategy calls with members and their public relations firms and provide updates to the larger membership through ACP-CA's regular meeting schedule.
Coordinate with ACP's communications team to maintain alignment on messaging and strategy in California and at the federal level.External Engagement :
Build external networks of supporters at the state and local level to serve as validators in media coverage and before policymaking bodies.
Represent the organization as a spokesperson at external meetings and events or speaking to the media.Education, Experience, Skills
Minimum of 8+ years of progressive work experience in journalism or communications and public relations.Experience building relationships and driving consensus among diverse viewpoints.
Strong knowledge of California's clean energy landscape, the offshore wind industry and policymaking processes at the state and local level.
Extensive relationships with California media outlets, policymakers, and key stakeholders in the clean energy industry.Proficiency with social media platforms and website development tools.
Strong written, verbal and digital communication skills.Demonstrated ability to work independently to implement new initiatives.
Job Conditions
We are a fast-paced, high-energy organization with a very ambitious agenda and a staff that is highly motivated. This position may experience high-level work demands and independent decision-making under tight timelines.
Occasional travel outside of the Sacramento area for meetings or events may be required. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
ACP will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
We reasonably believe that the base salary range for this position is $100,000 -135,000. At ACP, a wide range of factors are considered when making compensation decisions including and not limited to skillset, experience, training, education, knowledge, and other business and organizational needs.
