The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Development Coordinator to support the fundraising efforts for the department and for the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics OHDSI ( https : / / ohdsi.

org / ) Coordinating Center. The Development Coordinator will play a critical role in soliciting industry sponsors, seeking private foundational support, and identifying grant opportunities to advance the mission of DBMI and OHDSI.

This is a 12-month temporary position. Based on fundraising productivity this position may be extended.

The Department of Biomedical Informatics at CUIMC is a leader in the field of informatics, focusing on the development and application of computational methods to understand and improve health and healthcare.

About OHDSI

Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) is a multi-stakeholder, interdisciplinary collaborative that aims to bring out the value of observational health data through large-scale analytics.

The OHDSI Coordinating Center, based at CUIMC, plays a central role in facilitating the network's research and development activities.

Responsibilities

Fundraising, Development, and Award Management :

  • Assist in developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy for DBMI and OHDSI.
  • Identify, research, and cultivate potential industry sponsors and private foundations.
  • Identify and track relevant grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other sources
  • Prepare and submit proposals, grant applications, and sponsorship requests to secure funding ensuring compliance with all guidelines and deadlines.
  • Monitor award reporting requirements and assist in the preparation of progress reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of donor interactions, sponsorship agreements, and grant submissions.

Donor Relations :

  • Manage and strengthen relationships with existing donors, industry partners, and foundations.
  • Coordinate donor recognition and stewardship activities.
  • Plan and execute donor engagement events, meetings, and presentations.

Communication and Outreach :

  • Develop and distribute fundraising materials, including brochures, newsletters, and digital content.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to promote DBMI's and OHDSI's achievements and funding needs through various channels.
  • Represent DBMI and OHDSI at conferences, workshops, and networking events to enhance visibility and build relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, business, public health or related field, and / or equivalent in education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in fundraising, grant writing, or development, preferably within a healthcare, academic, or non-profit setting.
  • Proven track record of securing funding from industry sponsors and private foundations.
  • Strong understanding of biomedical informatics and healthcare research landscape.
  • Experience working with not-for-profit organizations, academic medical centers, or in the biomedical research sector.
  • Familiarity with the mission and activities of DBMI and OHDSI.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals and presentations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and collaborative approach.
