The Central Science Team within Amazon’s People Experience and Technology org (PXTCS) uses economics, behavioral science, statistics, and machine learning to proactively identify mechanisms and process improvements which simultaneously improve Amazon and the lives, well-being, and the value of work to Amazonians.

We are an interdisciplinary team, which combines the talents of science, research, design and engineering to develop and deliver solutions that measurably achieve this goal.

Throughout the strategy, design, and development lifecycle, you are the design thought leader that works collaboratively with a strong multi-disciplinary design team, as well with our analytics, business and engineering partners, to shape what’s next.

Key job responsibilities

Lead the design of useful, usable, and desirable product propositions in a team environment. Work with leadership in design planning and goal creation.

Understand customers and their needs through market analysis, customer research, and feedback.

Use business requirements to assist in developing use cases and high-level requirements.

Design the architecture, interface, and interaction flow of services and experiences.

Develop personas, customer journey maps, conceptual diagrams, wireframes, and prototypes.

Facilitate the design process, present and iterate design solutions.

Craft, pitch, and validate long-term design strategies.

Continually iterate and evolve the way we design for and learn from our customers.

Chart a course for yourself and others in ambiguous situations. Mentor and develop designers within your own organization and beyond.

Basic Qualifications

6+ years of industry experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, information architect, or similar design-related role.

4+ years of experience working in direct collaboration with product leadership, development managers, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Experience creating prototypes or wire-frames for complex web applications and / or workflows.

Portfolio including work from concept to completion, demonstrating your process of driving results from business / user problems to final product.

Demonstrated history of acquiring and synthesizing user data (e.g., conducting usability studies, performing user research) and creating personas and journey maps.

Preferred Qualifications

Fluency in best practices for information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques.

Experience working with stakeholders to plan and execute programs that are strategic in nature.

Experience owning large-scale projects, communicating timelines, and executing independently.

Experience in Service Design.

Strong verbal communication and presentation skills.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,100 / year in our lowest geographic market up to $211,600 / year in our highest geographic market.

Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and / or other benefits.
