JOB SUMMARY :
Assesses the insurability of real estate transactions; recognizes and resolves title problems and related issues. In-house attorney position that may also involve providing management oversight and leadership in the recruitment, training, motivation and management of downstate personnel and agents.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Makes underwriting decisions on matters raised by Advocus agents and staff.
- Conducts staff and Advocus agent training on underwriting-related topics.
- Develops and revises underwriting content on the Advocus website.
- Updates written underwriting materials and notifies Advocus members of changes to the guidelines.
- Handles complex and problem files.
- Provides legal and technical assistance to Advocus staff and independent closers.
- Participates in trade organization- and industry-related working groups as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS :
- 5+ years of regular real estate practice.
- Strong research and writing skills.
- Critical thinking.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Attentive to detail.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work under pressure with compressed deadlines in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge of Advocus title policy programs.
- Ability to work with a diverse and challenging customer base.
- Public speaking experience is a plus.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
Law Degree and active license to practice law in Illinois.
