Position Overview :

The Electronics Engineering Division at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory offers internship opportunities for students currently enrolled in an educational program or recently graduated.

We’re looking for motivated self-starters who are interested in getting exposed to one of the multiple areas of research and technologies used in SLAC’s particle accelerators.

The primary goal of the program is to provide interns with a stimulating, real-world research experience. Technical projects are matched to the interests and skills of each intern, but are ultimately determined by the programmatic needs of the facility.

Some fields of work :

  • RF power distribution and control.
  • Motion control and automation, including robotics.
  • Temperature, vacuum and environmental monitoring
  • Industrial controllers and PLCs
  • DC and pulsed power
  • Personnel safety systems, interlocks, access control and monitoring
  • Software and hardware control systems

Note : This is an hourly, non-benefits eligible temporary-nonexempt, internship position (work at 50% full-time equivalent or more, not to exceed 980 hours in six consecutive months.

Eligible applicants must be at least 18 years of age and currently enrolled in an educational program or recently graduated and have US work authorization.

All accepted candidates must have or be able to timely acquire US work authorization. A minimum commitment requested is 8 weeks.

To be successful in this position you will need :

  • Must be currently enrolled in an educational program or recently graduated in engineering, computer science, computational science, applied mathematics, or a related science or engineering discipline.
  • Interest in electronics engineering, communications, computer science or related field.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance is essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.

Additional Competencies one or more desired for each position depending upon the project :

  • Understanding and knowledge of Matlab
  • Basic knowledge of C / C++, Python.
  • Knowledge of electronics measurements and test equipment
  • Use of CAD design tools
  • Familiar with the use of hand tools and / or machine shop equipment

The expected pay range for this position is $21.08 to $27.83 per hour. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory / Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
