Overview :
This position performs work in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning trade involving the installation, diagnosis, troubleshooting, programming and repair of electric, pneumatic, electronic, and computerized control systems.
The work involves reading and interpreting building blueprints and HVAC systems diagrams and specifications, isolating and identifying problems, and installing and calibrating controls and equipment according to specifications.
The incumbent will be the lead responder when Operating Room RH and temperature issues are reported.
All work is performed under the general supervision of the shop supervisor or lead, and in some instances, under the direction of an engineer or project coordinator.
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities over subordinate workers, but may oversee the work of trades helpers, mechanics, or other skilled craft workers involved in specific projects.
Work is reviewed by observation of results and effective operation of HVAC system controls. Job requirements, on occasion, require work beyond normal duty hours in support of emergency or high priority work.
This position is not responsible for providing direct patient care.
Responsibilities :
- Operates, repairs, overhauls, services, and maintains equipment in all areas of the health care physical environment.
- Performs regularly scheduled preventive maintenance work on equipment based on manufacturers recommendations or required by code.
- Enters data into the established CMMS.
- Maintains clean equipment rooms and other areas to include AHU filter change out.
- Maintains equipment performance and repair records.
- Completes fire extinguisher inspection.
- May assist in designing and implementing mechanical or electrical alterations to new and existing equipment in order to improve efficiency, performance, and extend the life of equipment.
- May assist in ensuring that all equipment and maintenance standards meet all regulatory compliance requirements mandated by local, state and federal agencies.
- Completes required after-hours on-call rotation.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
- Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer functions.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Ability to participate in after hours on-call rotation.
- Demonstrated, strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, or in a group.
- Ability to follow specific directions.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
Qualifications Required :
- Eighteen (18) months of hands-on maintenance and repair experience in one or more of the following areas : pipefitting, HVACR, steam-operated systems used for humidification and sterilization, pneumatic and electronic building control systems (BAC), plumbing systems, commercial or industrial laundry equipment, sterilizing equipment, gas or diesel engines and generators, kitchen and cafeteria equipment, mechanical and electrical systems, carpentry, troubleshooting, concrete laying, or welding and fabrication.
- Depending upon department of hire, a valid, State of Utah Driver's License may be required.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands :
This position involves very physical work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects.
The position may involve moving heavy equipment and / or supplies. This position involves a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals.
