Essential Functions
The role of Part-time Assistant Professor includes teaching
courses within a programmatic core discipline as assigned and supervise doctoral level trainees conducting psychological assessments to clients in the community.
Responsibilities
- Part-time Assistant Professor will teach in-person courses, which may include some teaching on weekends. The exception to this requirement is when there is a holiday observed by the University.
- Part-time Assistant Professor will answer all student emails within two calendar days which is likely to require responding over weekends.
- Part-time Assistant Professor will supervise advanced doctoral trainees conducting psychological assessment in the Psychological Assessment Clinic PAC at National University, which may include being available to provide supervision on the weekends and / or evenings.
- Part-time Assistant Professor shall be available to the trainee 100% of the time the trainee is working. This availability may be in person or through telephone, or other appropriate technologies.
- Part-time Assistant Professor will provide timely and quality feedback to students and trainees
Scholarship
Part-time Assistant Professor is expected to meet the University's requirements for scholarship as articulated in the Faculty Handbook.
Part-time Assistant Professor is encouraged to apply for the various initiatives the University funds to promote research and scholarship.
Part-time Assistant Professor will
- Maintain a record of scholarly activities befitting a doctoral granting institution
- Contribute to the body of knowledge of their discipline
Compliance with University Policies
Part-time Assistant Professors are expected to know, acknowledge, and comply with university policies as stated in the Team Member Handbook and Faculty Handbook.
Requirements :
Education & Experience :
- Doctoral degree in Psychology.
- Possess and maintain a valid, active Psychologist license in the state of California free of any formal disciplinary action.
- Demonstrated ability in teaching at the graduate level is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability in supervising graduate level trainees is preferred.
- Sensitivity in working with ethnically, linguistically, culturally, and economically diverse student and patient population.
Competencies / Technical / Functional Skills :
- Create and update course syllabi that conform to NU standards.
- Create original course material.
- Evaluate and grade student performance.
- Be available for office hours and clinical supervision.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret psychological assessment data.
- Ensure the quality of diagnostic assessments.
- Frequent proofreading and providing feedback on student and trainee assignments.
- Attends weekly remote supervisory team meetings with psychological assessment clinic.
- Ability to participate as an active team member of the team and organization and work toward a common goal. Contributes fully to the team effort and plays an integral part in the smooth running of teams without necessarily taking the lead.
- Accepts personal accountability, proactively seeks resolution for personal limitations head-on; and supports honesty and respect towards others, the company and oneself.
- Working knowledge, principles and practices of office management / systems within a higher education environment, preferred.
Demonstrates an understanding of underlying organizational issues.
- Work independently and foster a cooperative spirit within a large and / or small team of diverse cultures, while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and frequently changing priorities.
- Intermediate use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite Applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook. Experience using Student Information System (SIS) such as SOAR / Peoplesoft systems.
- Skill in operating equipment, such as personal computer, fax, copier, phone systems
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governing body regulations
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication skills : verbal and written
- Demonstrated mastery of APA style

Hourly : $26.63 - $28.89
