The Children Institute Home Visitor at the Children's Bureau is responsible for providing support and guidance to families in their homes, promoting child development, parent-child bonding, and overall family well-being.
The home visitor will work closely with families to assess their needs, provide parenting education, connect them with community resources, and monitor progress.
This position requires strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to empowering families.
Responsibilities :
Report to : Associate Director of Prevention and Aftercare LA and OC
Home Visits and Family Support :
- Conduct regular home visits to families referred by the Children Institute program.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with families, respecting their cultural values and diversity.
- Assess the strengths, needs, and goals of each family through comprehensive assessments and observations.
- Provide individualized support and guidance to parents on child development, positive parenting techniques, and health and safety practices.
- Collaborate with families to develop and implement family-centered goals and action plans.
Parenting Education and Skill-Building :
- Facilitate parenting education sessions and workshops, both individually and in groups, covering topics such as child development, behavior management, and age-appropriate activities.
- Teach parents strategies to enhance parent-child interactions, promote positive discipline, and foster healthy attachment.

Child Development Monitoring :
- Conduct developmental screenings and assessments for children to monitor their growth, milestones, and overall development.
- Recognize and address any developmental concerns or delays promptly, connecting families to appropriate early intervention services or resources.
- Educate parents on age-appropriate activities and play-based learning to support their child's cognitive, social, and emotional development.
Advocacy and Resource Coordination :
- Serve as an advocate for families, assisting them in navigating systems and accessing needed services.
- Collaborate with community organizations, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to coordinate comprehensive support for families.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of available community resources, including childcare, healthcare, counseling, and educational programs.
Documentation and Reporting :
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of home visits, assessments, and service plans.
- Complete required monthly documentation, progress notes, and reports in a timely manner
