Responsibilities

Salt Lake Behavioral Health is seeking a dynamic and talented Dietary Supervisor for our Dietary Department. We are a private, freestanding, 118- bed, acute psychiatric hospital;

specializing in mental health and chemical dependency. We provide a wide range of services and programs that offer evidence-based treatment proven to have positive outcomes for our patients.

Our inpatient and day hospital, or outpatient services offer supportive and compassionate care for adults and adolescents through specialty programs that are tailored to meet the needs of our patients.

The Dietary Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Dietary Manager by supervising and coordinating all activities of the Food Service Department which includes providing nutritional and attractive meals for patients and facility employees, maintaining an organized and sanitary environment, monitoring supply inventories and purchasing of food and supplies as required, ensuring proper storage of food and supplies and managing an effective food service staff.

The Dietary Supervisor is also required to work the line including serving food to patients and cooking meals.

  • Open kitchen and ensure organization of daily events
  • Comply with facility and departmental policies and procedures regarding food services offered.
  • Assist with menus and recipes as provided by the Dietary Manager / Dietitian.
  • Prepare meals and beverages according to menu cycle and daily production sheet, providing attention to attractive and tasteful meals.
  • Accurately prepare food for modified diets, consulting with the Dietary Manager / Dietitian as required.
  • Complete and prepare meals in a timely manner as prescribed by posted meal times.
  • Assist in creating and posting the cleaning schedule and ensure a clean work area and dining room at all times.
  • Assist with temperature documentation by ensuring that the food service staff is maintaining an ongoing record of food temperatures, refrigerator, freezer and dish machine temperatures.
  • Document refrigeration and dish machine temperatures according to posted schedule.
  • Adhere to standards for food temperatures during cooking, serving and storage of leftovers.
  • Maintain walk in freezer and storerooms in an orderly fashion, and properly date and label all food items.
  • Adhere to appropriate portion control and avoid over production.
  • Comply with established guidelines for sanitation and safety.
  • Provide leadership to the other food service staff during shift.
  • Provide in-service education and orientation to the food service staff, and when appropriate, to other facility staff.
  • Assist in interviewing, recruiting and maintaining an effective food service staff adequate to meet the patient needs.
  • Assist with the completion of the food service staffing schedules including monitoring the time off requests and ensuring accuracy of time card records.
  • Assist in ensuring staff retention through recognition of efforts, providing opportunities to discuss any issues / problems, and maintain a level of staff morale which projects a positive image of the facility.
  • Assist in the evaluation process of the food service staff.
  • Provide the food service staff with adequate equipment / supplies and ensure all equipment is maintained in good working condition at all times.
  • Monitor the equipment in the department for safety and efficiency and if problems arise, notify the Dietary Manager / Dietician immediately for corrections.
  • Provide for a sanitary work environment and monitor sanitation and infection control practices to allow for the safe delivery of meals.
  • Consult with the Dietary Manager / Dietitian regarding the nutritional needs of patients.
  • Assist in purchasing food, storage of food, monitoring inventory, food preparation, and quality service.
  • Maintain relationships with approved vendors, and monitor products purchased for quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Interact with patients in the serving line, offering assistance in the selection of a nutritionally balanced meal.
  • Support and encourage harmonious working relationships within the department, as well as with all employees in the facility.
  • Provide assistance with washing dishes and maintain dish room in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures.
  • Attend all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.
  • Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality.
  • Support facility-wide quality and performance improvement goals and objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.

Qualifications

  • Education : Associates degree in a food services related field preferred.
  • Experience : Three (3) years of demonstrated responsible food service experience, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Certification : Food Handlers Permit required. ServSafe certification required within 90 days. CPR certification is required.

You will need to successfully complete our current training for restraints and seclusions. This training will need to be done prior to assisting in any patient restraints or seclusions and within 90 days of employment.
