2nd Shift Production Supervisor
Purpose of Position
This position contributes to the achievement of Company and Plant objectives by overseeing efficient, cost-effective assembly of filters.
The supervisor directs the activities of department personnel to complete production schedules safely and on a timely basis while controlling costs, efficiency, quality, and equipment.
This person also carries out administrative functions within Company rules and procedures.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
1. Advise the Plant Manager about the status of the department and provide information that might affect the company and / or division.
2. Engage the team in identifying and implementing continuous improvement in the areas of Safety, Quality, Cost, Productivity, and Customer Satisfaction.
3. Ensure employees are properly trained in all aspects of their jobs to include safety, quality, and production. Identify gaps and develop training plans.
4. Manage personnel for maximum safety, efficiency, and productivity.
5. Ensure all employees are working in a safe manner by developing a culture in which employees address unsafe conditions, and unsafe behavior as well as participate and make suggestions for improvement.
6. Review production schedules to plan work for departments and assign workload to ensure that you maintain the highest efficiency.
7. Supervise personnel to verify soundness in staffing and ability to function effectively and as part of a team.
8. Call deficiencies to the attention of appropriate personnel.
9. Assure that assembly lines and machinery are set up with the materials needed per schedules.
10. Oversee correct use and maintenance of machinery and equipment. Inform the correct personnel when a machine or equipment needs repair.
11. Verify and approve the accuracy of production reports at the end of each shift.
12. Perform administrative functions such as employee timekeeping, performance review, and counseling.
13. Strictly adhere to facility safety, housekeeping, and quality guidelines.
14. Develop a lean management technology with the entire team.
15. Participate in 6S initiatives and support as needed
16. Submit daily paperwork timely and accurately.
17. Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.
Requirements
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Ensure that the month-end inventory is completed with accuracy.
2. Conduct regular safety meetings. Enforce safety rules and procedures.
3. Maintain good housekeeping practices within the department.
REQUIREMENTS
2nd Shift production hours are 3 : 00 p.m. 1 a.m. M-F. Production supervisors are expected to arrive at least an hour before shift starts and complete shift wrap up at the end of the day.
Production supervisors are eligible for additional pay for hours worked over 45 in a work week.
DECISIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Cooperate with line and staff personnel to achieve corporate and facility objectives.
2. Communicate with other department staff regarding incomplete schedules, deficiencies, changes, and / or problems.
3. Anticipate and determine causes of production delays and take appropriate action so as to meet production schedules.
4. Report promptly to the Plant Manager when delays occur, estimate the length of delay, and report when an operation is resumed.
5. Assign employees to rotational positions to ensure operational strategies.
6. Train, appraise, and initiate changes of status so that manpower is most effectively utilized and developed.
7. Investigate accidents and submit injury reports with recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Must be able to lift up to approximately 25 pounds.
2. Must be able to walk throughout the plant to personally view operations.
3. Must be able to bend, stoop and squat.
4. Must be able to use both hands and arms in a repetitive motion if needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment.
2. Must also be able to work in an office environment.
3. Must be able to use standard office equipment such as a computer, calculator, copier / printer, and telephone.
4. Must be well-organized and detail-oriented.
5. Must be able to withstand both hot and cold atmospheres depending on weather conditions.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school graduate or equivalent. Some college desirable.
2. Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
3. High level of professionalism and business acumen.
4. Possess mechanical aptitude.
5. Must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
