State Title : Assistant Director, Food Service
JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB GOAL :
To assist the Director in providing quality, safe food for all district students and staff. To provide responsible administrative and professional work in assisting the director with school food service programs and operations.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution.
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful leadership and supervisory experience.
- Food Service Management experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, policies, procedures, and best practices. Exhibits leadership skills in decision making, organization, and delegation.
Capable of interpreting rules, regulations, and policies. Demonstrates ability to manage diversified activities and projects effectively.
Ability to work independently, without close supervision. Demonstrates willingness to work as a team with kitchen, school, and administrative staff.
Identify personal goals and work toward achievement of those goals. Willing to work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the position.

SUPERVISES :
Assigned Food and Nutrition Services Staff
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Monitor the total Food and Nutrition operations by making decisions, planning, directing, communicating, organizing and working as a team member.
- Advocate, facilitate and monitor the professional growth and performance of all staff.
- Lead activities in preparation and during the USDA School Meals Administrative Review.
- Oversee administrative process for hiring, payroll, and employee discipline.
- Represent department on business, community, and district level groups.
- Supervise the departmental programs and encourage continuous improvement efforts within the department.
- Attend meetings and training related to Food and Nutrition Services.
- Participate in community events and encourage community partnerships.
- Prepare for and participate in audits and reviews.
- Respond to urgent matters including equipment failure, emergency staff concerns, and utility disruptions as needed outside of regular business hours.
- Serve as Department and District representative for schools and community groups.
- Encourage employee involvement, empowerment, responsibility, and innovation and recognize outstanding employee performance.
- Assist Director in aligning department plans and budgeting to the district strategic plan.
- Serve as designee in absence of director.
- Represent departmental concerns to the Executive Director School Support Services.
- Advocate, facilitate, and monitor customer satisfaction data.
- Participate in shelter related activities before, during and after the event.
- Communicate with School Advisory, PTA / PPO and Booster organizations as needed.
- Maintain an information system that provides responses to requests in a timely manner.
- Gather, monitor, and share data for comparison and improvement purposes.
- Assist managers in analyzing and using operational results to continually improve service to customers.
- Advocate, facilitate, and monitor the development, implementation, and results of department improvement initiatives as they relate to district initiatives.
- Evaluate overall operational performance.
- Organize and supervise the Management Team.
- Facilitate the resolution of problems appealed above the manager level.
- Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
- Attend training sessions, conferences, and workshops to keep abreast of current practices, programs, and legal issues.
- Supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals, and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions.
- Prepare or oversee the preparation of all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
- Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Light Work : Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
EVALUATION :
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
