General Position Description :

Responsible for managing the college-wide operations related to learning resource acquisitions and library cataloging. Leads the library technical services team to ensure that campus libraries receive the necessary learning resources to support collection development.

Oversees and provides both original and copy cataloging services across the college. Offers expert guidance to library staff in identifying, acquiring, cataloging, and accessing a variety of learning resources.

Description of Job Function :

1.Plans, develops, and implements policies, procedures and guidelines for cataloging and acquisitions operations. Provides college-wide training on related issues, as needed, and offers feedback on proposed revisions to the college library collection development procedures.

2.Manages staff in a collaborative environment, including supervising, developing, coaching, and evaluating employees. Provides training and technical guidance to staff as needed.

3.Networks and coordinates with vendors, other libraries, Florida Virtual Campus, and related entities.

4.Collaborates with librarians’ college-wide to develop selection, acquisition, and cataloging procedures that facilitate the college-wide collection development guidelines and promote access to resources.

5.Manages bibliographic records for college learning resources. Oversees cataloging processes and performs original cataloging along with related quality control.

6.Manages the acquisitions process for college learning resources. Coordinates and maintains acquisitions budget and provides reports on expenditures and usage of college assets.

7.Performs quality control for bibliographic records, cataloging activities, inventory, and purchasing.

8.Provides expert cataloging interpretation and adheres to AACR2, RDA, MARC, OCLC and Library of Congress guidelines in cataloging and classifying learning resources.

9.Consults with campus libraries to resolve cataloging and database concerns, identifies trends in bibliographic services, discusses options for handling learning resources, and supports collection development.

10.Analyzes operational data and workflow processes preparing related reports. Identifies and implements process improvements in collaboration with the Campus Deans of Learning Support.

11.Researches and recommends new technologies to enhance productivity and efficiency. Troubleshoots related technical problems and recommends solutions.

Required Minimum Education :

Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Required Field of Study :

Library Science from an ALA accredited college or university.

Other Required Qualifications :

Work experience in a library.

Preferred Type of Experience :

Academic library experience.

Work experience in library acquisitions / serials and cataloging in Library of Congress

Supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Knowledge of academic library cataloging and Library of Congress classification system, tools, and methodologies.

Knowledge of electronic library and learning resources, including emerging technology trends.

Knowledge of library operations and management principles.

Skill in the use of personal computers, general office software, integrated library systems and databases.

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

Ability to analyze data and workflow processes, address concerns, and implement improvements as needed.

Ability to attend to detail and perform quality control for acquisitions and cataloging processes.

Ability to perform related research, communicate technical information to a variety of audiences, and prepare reports as needed.

Ability to lead, coach, train and supervise employees.

Ability to motivate and support a team environment and work collaboratively with other departments.

Ability to manage a budget and purchasing activities.

Ability to travel between campus locations as needed.

Ability to lift and carry learning resources materials of up to 20 pounds.

Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse student populations.

General Working Conditions :

This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending / descending, lifting / moving objects weighing between 5-15 pounds.

This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus.

Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to frequently using discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.
